I do all kinds of IT but only very recent experience with this. I need to replace one at work. Anybody here make a recommendation from experience for less than $400? It needs to cover a remote area about 600 feet across which includes a parking lot, sheltered tables, small food vendor and a ranger desk at Mesa Verde.
I would start with looking at their gear. They specialize in out door wireless (although they also have indoor gear). Several co-workers use their equipment. Two have point to point wireless links that are 35+ miles.
An 802.11n setup should work well for you. 802.11ac is faster, but your internet link will be the limiting factor anyway.
Turns out we had a Microtik. Got a new transmitter installed today and have pretty decent coverage for the area again. Thanks for the feedback Brandon!
I know it's after the fact, but a corner reflector, phased array or panel antenna focuses the coverage in specific areas, ie; parkinglot/visitor center. An omni often wastes RF toward areas not needed.
Glad you got it working.
