I can't express how proud I am right now. I got home from a great night at school and found this waiting for me in the mail.
20 years in uniform over a 26 year period (had a 6 year break in service) and I got my letter. So many memories, lost friends, and a decomposing body but I DID IT!!! I may drink a beer.
Grats, my dad served 22 years active army from 70-93 (he left for 1 year in 74) airborne and then intelligence, and then died 5 years later from cancer.. Life sucks.. so much accomplished and then gone..

Congrats to You! I will be retiring from National Park Service at the end of September. I bought my 6 years Coast Guard time into my civil service time. I'll have combined 22 years. I am looking forward to it.
Well it ain't just the smoke and the traffic jam that makes me the bitter fool I am But this four-wheel buggy is A-dollaring me to death.
For gas and oils and fluids and grease, And wires and tires and anti freeze....And them accessories, Well honey, that's something else.
Thanks guys... it is a feeling of having reached a milestone in my life. As I've had an interesting, mixed career of Active duty, National Guard and now Reserves, I still have to have the retirement points tallied to ensure I'm there but this is kinda the first big recognition of reaching the 20 year mark. I also have to see how my current contract is effected as I have over 4 years on it. I suppose if I drop the retirement packet then the contract becomes moot. I'll find out more this weekend.
What's sad is I would stay, serving as long as they let me but I just don't think my body has much more left in it. And since I'm far less capable physically I feel like I'm not setting much of a good example anymore. I guess it's probably time to hang up my boots.
Congrats, brother! Well done.
I don't think the eligibility will do anything as far as your contract, but they may let you out of it. be sure to go through the full medical exams, etc. before you leave..
One day I will wake up and realize that my jeep is complete...one day, I just know it.

I did my 4 years way back in the 90's. had I stayed in, I would be getting a similar letter.
You did more than the majority of citizens. It's not how long but that you DID. Had I not taken a 6 year break I would probably be in a little different boat myself. Maybe. Still.... no regrets. And I'd do it all over in a second.
