I did throw around the idea of putting ads on here to allow it to pay for itself, along with maybe doing some monthly give aways or the like. this was back when I first started it. Nothing recent. But the problem is taxes. Unless you are making a fair amount of cash off the site, you actually lose money by having them on there. So in the end its just not worth it. This site doesn't cost that much to run, so I just assume leave it ad free.
And before anybody asks, no I am not going to take donations. The same issue comes up.
I did not know, for I use Chrome with AdBlock
I turned off AdBlock and sure enough, there was an ad banner at the top.

Software works fine over there - and disabling JavaScript (or running an ad blocker) keeps the ads away. The software here, on the other hand, seems to have gone bad. Click on a posting and it might decide to load anywhere from two to ten minutes - or it never loads. Took three tries and several minutes just to get the message box to write this reply...

If you are having issues why not post it in the forum section so that I can address it? I have not heard of any complaints. And unless those whom have issues state that they have issues, I cannot address them. And as of now, nobody has complained, outside of what you just stated.
And the software there does not work fine. It functions, but several things have been broken for some time. There is no reason to be running software as old as it is. The security flaws alone are reason to upgrade.

Well, now you know. Been happening for a few days to a week. Before that, it worked fine.

Can you please go here and post your location and browser?
We had been in talks to take it over and maintain it in perpetuity, but understandably JC wanted to sell it rather than pass it over. We discussed prices, and addition to the purchase price, we had to factor in about $2-4k in software upgrades plus monthly hosting fees, etc, but in the end we couldn't make the numbers work. He stated that he was either going to run it himself and start generating revenue, or was going to sell it to someone else. Either way, it's going to become an advertising site. My gut feeling is that the ads are being placed to show profit, and then it will be sold off to the highest bidder.

I have seen this happen on other forums, but they were all far larger than IFSJA (jk-forum, jk-owners, and Pirate4x4) . Really not sure it is busy enough to actually make enough to offset the operating costs by a large enough amount to make it a worthwhile purchase. Well, when buying to make a profit off it anyway. But we shall see.
It does mean that .org should be exchanged for .com.
