Next stop, another homestead. This one though was a bit different. The first clue was that all the windows where still intact. Now most old homesteads are interesting and a step back in time...but this one was stepping back into time. Or did someone hear us coming and hid in 1986? This was a really cool place and a treasure to see something so intact for so long.

A 1/4 mile hike into the lava field to find a lake was next. After a few minutes of hiking success.

There was plenty of water around as we found out farther down road.

Which lead to the first mishap of the trip. Luckily I stopped when I did. A few more feet and I would have needed a pull. With a little digging I was able to back out this time.

We evaluated the situation and decided to continue on giving as wide a berth of the mud as we could. In some cases it was still pretty close.

The marsh turned into a stream and we finally came to a point to ford. The question is are we going to get stuck crossing? Not this time.....

The next adventure.....driving across the lava. This is a old road built who knows when and goes across the lava for about half a mile. Pretty cool to see how they filled lava fissures with boulders, and low spots with small stones. It has not been maintained for some time so it made for some interesting stretches of trail blazing. At points you could see where they had made curbs to guide you through the lava field. A lot of this was missing now though.

Once I made it to the other side of the lava field we found a dilapidated old bridge. Not sure when it was used last because you had to drive up a two foot ledge to get on and off it. So it was build up the approaches with stones or go through the stream. This is what looked like everyone else was doing except with ATV's. We decided to go for the ford. This lead to mishap number 2! Getting lined up for the narrow ford I sunk into the mud.....again. With some more digging, trimming of the bank with the shovel and good placements of rocks we were able to persuade the Jeep forward once more......

We finally arrived at our destination......

There was a cool old dam between the upper and lower lakes. Not sure how old the stone work was, but the concrete portion was signed Dec 3,1966. The concrete looked much newer than the stone work though.

Then the stream flows into the lower lake.

Just a heads up. I have retired the Jeep again for a while. I purchased the wife a newer Jeep and I acquired her old Durango. They only wanted to give me $800.00 for a trade in. Heck I have over that in the tires alone. With only 130,000 miles I figured it has a lot of life left in it.

The Jeep also has some issues to address that will be easier to do when it is not needed as a daily driver.

Anyway these trips are continuing, but since it is not really a Jeep related trip (for me) I will not be posting here. If you want to continue to follow along with these adventures you can find me here http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/t ... Adventures . Although I am in a Durango now all Jeeps are welcome to tag along. Happy trails. George.

April 16, Owyhee Front II
Time: 6:00am
Meet Place: Ridley's at 999 N Meridian Rd. Kuna
Destination: Owyhee Front
Estimated Duration: Full Day

The February Owyhee Front trip was planned out for 11 destinations and we only made it to 5. This left 6 more destinations to attempt and a good start for another trip .

Owyhee Front II will be a attempt to finish these last 6 destinations with a return trip to one cool destination due to popular demand.......

This is not a guided trip and you are responsible for your own safety. Thanks for looking.
