Thanks George for planning out the day and everyone else that showed up for the trip. It was a beautiful day in the desert and a great adventure.

Will report back soon with the 35mm photos once they're developed :)

I will be heading out to Crutcher's crossing. If the river is low enough to ford then to 45 ranch and a night at Coyote Hole. This would be a two day trip.

Crossing and Coyotes
Date: May 28,29
Time: 7:00 am
Meet Place: Lowes parking lot 305 W Overland Rd, Meridian.
Destination: Deep high Desert
Estimated Duration: 2 day overnighter

This video is not me, but gives a idea of the terrain and road conditions.

This will be a deep desert trip so please make sure your vehicle is in good working order and tires are adequate for these kinds of roads.
This is not a guided tour and you are responsible for your own safety.

If you are closer to Nampa we can arrange a meeting place there. I would think Kmart parking lot would be a good location. Just let me know. Thanks for looking.

Looking ahead into the summer it is time for me to change destinations from desert to mountains. Trips that are lining up are....

Alpine lakes and this does not look like Georgia!: 191 mile overnight trip to Alpine lakes for the night and then to a ghost town named after a Georgia city.

Baby Magruder Road: This road has a lot of the same qualities that the famous Magruder corridor road has. Isolated, surrounded by miles of undeveloped lands, crests 8000 feet (twice), primitive and great views from high vistas. 180 mile overnighter trip over a cool road built in the 1800's to move gold.

I see foam: 263 mile overnight trip to high alpine lakes. One of the few places to drive to within the Frank Church Wilderness area. This will be the last mountain trip I do this year. Then it is back to the desert for fall fun.

It is a fun place to be......for now. Gooberment is closing a lot of land down from motorized travel. This trip will be on the fringe of that area and using cherry stems to be able to drive into the few places available for motorized travel.

Two more days left to get tires.....

Last time I took street tires into the desert I had a brand new set of AT's the next week. Took out my two front tires, only had one spare....

Cow Lakes and Craters was another successful trip. Went solo this trip, the fist since I started posting trips here on the EP.

First stop was the craters. Great spot to get out and walk around in lava without lots of other people. There was one person already there when we got there, they had spent the night. Other than that, no one since we left the main highway 25 miles ago.

Next was to find the two track that follows the edge of the lava flow. This road has not been traveled for some time and it took a bit to find it in the tall grass. For once the GPS actually got me on track...or would that be two track!

Next was a side trip to find a spring. Did not find a spring, but did find this huge old windmill. It is still sitting on the ground right where it fell many years ago. Not much left of any of the rest of the structure though. Yes, it is as tall as the Jeep.
