I'm guessing we'll have to drive awhile before we find suitable camping. This area is pretty remote.

OK, lets setup the meeting time and location.
For me it makes sense to just head straight to Globe.
That's a little over two hours for me in the jeep.

I was able to splice two pages together for a map.
Feel free to download, it's a little over 18 megs.
You should be able to zoom in real well.
I will save it to my Ipad.

Looks to be FS land.
I saw no mention of permits.

My thought is we run it south to north, then return on 288. Make a loop of it. We can decide as a group if we want to take any offshoots to the cliff dwellings.

I checked with the forest service here today and they said we do not need any permit but the jeep need to be street legal and could not tell me how the road would been with the weather they have had.

Going through the camp ground listings (we would fall under the Pleasant Valley Ranger District) there are no established camp grounds open until May 15th.
http://www.fs.usda.gov/activity/tonto/r ... ing-cabins

So that means we are primitive camping.
I'm fine with that.
It does look like there are not many spots that are big enough right on or near FR203.
I think our best bet may be up just south of Young near FR 329 and 54.
34° 0'58.11"N
110°53'10.44"W
Looks to be flat there with some older structures in the area.

Copper Forks Ruins and Pueblo Canyon Ruins are south of that area.
I don't know much about them yet.

It's been awhile since I've camped with you guys (Smiley Rock?) and I know some of you come really equiped for cooking. Should we coordinate cooking equipment/food or is it everyman for himself? Just trying to figure out what I should bring.

Not sure if I am prepping for one or two, won't know until the last minute so I will just be packing light.
Thinking breakfast in Globe, lunch on the trail, fajitas or something easy for dinner.
I will be packing breakfast for 4-6 as usual.

I pretty much pack the same utensils for every trip and I'm sure mikie is packing the whole kitchen sink as usual.

Newbie here. I did this trail in '12 with my jeep club. We overnighted at PB cabin and Dupont cabin. PB is set up so you can sleep in it if you want to, bedding, food, board games, etc. We slept in tents outside. :) Dupont cabin is just a ruin. Fun trail to Dupont so it was worth it.
I start what I finish.

Ok folks, Jerry and I have been talking and since we need a final plan we propose this:

9:00 AM Saturday
Meet at Judy's Cook House
That's the southeast corner of 60 and 188.
If you are coming from the valley up 60 plan accordingly, you may have Renaissance traffic to deal with on the way.
Google Earth:
33°24'56.67"N
110°49'39.36"W

Jerry and I are planning on breakfast there.
Please join us if you can.
If we can get out of there by 10:30 or so we should have a nice easy day.
Weather looks to be good but it will be cool at night.

This looks like another potential camping spot.
34° 2'6.43"N
110°53'41.99"W
That would be a mile or so south of Cherry Creek Lodge just south of Young on NF3005.

haha. did you say PLAN?

Each has its advantages. If we set up first then we can come back later and do the cook'n and stuff.

If we wait then if we see a really cool sight (or something happens) we have all of our stuff.

Either way I am looking forward to it. I didn't get my exhaust leak fixed. I was going to tackle it today but had a bad feeling I would snap a bolt or something so I will take care if it the weekend after this trip.

Typically folks piss and moan if I say 7am.
Either way I am leaving in the dark.

I felt it best if we at least narrowed it down to what county we are meeting in.

When I track it out we are about 70 miles from Globe to camp anyplace.
It looks easy but I bet it's a full day for us.
We can camp where ever we want, I'm just looking at flat spots.
