Not there. But your thread has me studying the free test prep on ARRL.com

The best test prep by far is free and its:
https://hamstudy.org/

Spend an hour each night going through the questions and then pass the test that weekend. The Technician test is easy. We had a couple of 9 year olds ace the test at our last Test Session with the local club. I think they were Scouts and looking to get a patch or something. The little Handi-talkie radios are good for short range comms but if you want to really benefit from Ham radio out on the trail, you really need to get a mobile 2m/70cm rig installed in the Jeep that has APRS. I have a Yaesu FTM-400DR and the Kenwood TM-D710G is another popular APRS capable radio.

Of course if you really want to get out there, you need a General license to operate in the HF frequencies. On 40 meters with a good HF mobile and a NVIS antenna you could be somewhere in the Ouray mountain passes and dial up someone in Denver. :)

So I took the technician test this morning and passed 32/35 questions.

I tried the general test, having not studied for it at all. Got 21/35 so I didn't pass that one. But I'm now a ham. :D

Congrats Derf! You are now a member of a radio brotherhood that goes all the way back to Hiram Percy Maxim and Marconi.

So my father is giving me his old Yaseu FT 227R. Some quick googling says it's a solid, if outdated, radio. But it's easy to work on and add things like a CTCSS tone board. I'll have to dust off my soldering skills but I think this will be a good vintage radio for Truck Norris.
