79 Cherokee CTD swap AKA. Flagstaff

Post by Eugene 1 »

here is my build i purchased my 79 Cherokee in Flagstaff, Arizona from the previous owners at Vintage Salvage, they were very nice people and easy to deal with. after some negotiation i was able to get it for a little less than the asking price $650.

I used http://www.uship.com to find a shipper who could get it to Kansas for the best price, as luck would have it i found a Shipper we made the deal and it arrived here on the November 23rd here are some photos.

Great start. Have you decided what you are going to do with it?

Nice to see you made it over here. You going to transfer the rest of the build?

The plan is to use a donor (which i did ) for a Cummins swap..I notcied when you try to buy some of the parts individually it can get super expensive! so a donor was located in northern Wisconsin.. it was a rust bucket, but the trans was new and it had less than 200,000 on the clock. The 12V has dennys fuel pin and trans controller form DNR. the Trans is the auto OD D60f/D70R Np205

Oh ok will do !
the first order of business was to remove the old drive train :

After removing the front clip MWEATH and I used the pressure washer to get rid of 30 something years of oil and grime

With the engine Clean as well as the frame and the donor truck we moved on to the next thing which was how are we going to get this in here ?

Thanks Flint! :-bd as mentioned in the previous posts the big question is how does this all fit?? were taking a break and I was standing between both frames The donor and Cherokee and we noticed that they were similar in width hmmm out comes the tape measure !!! about a1/2 inch off !! so we cut Xs in the rivet heads and removed the cross member from the Dodge..
Image

We then made up spacers from the Flatbed of the Dodge and drilled holes to fit the Frame and we used a couple of the original holes when removed the Cherokee crossmember
