Originally it wasl isted at like $4,000. But i think some stealership bought it and is listing it now using the same pics and put it at 10k$

Nope! No such critter from the factory.
The first diesel jeep in the 80s was a Renault 4 cyl in the XJ Cherokees.
Those badges are from a C/K series GM pickup from the 80s-90s.

Considering how they have it listed as a 5.9 and they don't even know how to spell diesel I think you're better off with what you bought...and judging by the pics I'd hate to see that hack job swap.
The 6.2 GM diesel was a turd anyways. Only mediocre fuel mileage, unreliable, and completely gutless.

Oh, and the glow plug controller drama...

I think the only diesels offered were sent or built overseas. Wish I could have one, but this one.... run away from it as fast as you can.

Like Gumby, the only diesels FSJs i know were built oversea, more precisely in Finland or Sweden : wagoneers with a 411B Valmet engine

stumbled on this

http://www.505turbo.com/forum/index.php ... icial-xd2/

while searching for Zeitgeist diesel, out of Placerville, CA

pasting, just in case the site goes south

interesting! did some quick googling and found a video of this vehicle on youtube. in the video, you can see the sticker the owner alludes to -- it's a california ARB sticker, which mentions "zeitgeist diesel applications" in placerville, california. about the only reference i could find to that company is this one, which states that the company did diesel conversions using peugeot engines (!?!). according to the california secretary of state website, the company is not currently in business...

That's pretty cool. I wonder how many other converted CJ7s are floating around out there? I'd love to get my hands on one. Apparently back in the early 60s you could get the CJ5 with a Perkins 3.2 liter 4 cylinder diesel from the factory, though there were only a couple hundred ever produced.

A Jeep CJ or Wrangler with a Peugeot XD motor is on my list of would-be-cool projects. Maybe someday I'd endeavor such a project.

Me: the only perkins I remember was on a FSJ in a small island off the coast of Spain, Mallorca.

Peugeot enthusiasts in the USA, really ?

BTW there is a rumor about PSA (Peugeot, Citroen) returning on the US market in a few years, but i am skeptical, wait and see..

I remember a Russian Wagoneer with a Perkins

I saw one of these perkins powered CJ's at a jeep jamboree in the mid-late 90's. Had no idea back then that it was anything special.

There's an 81 Chief for sale on the SF craigslist right now that says it originally had a zeitgeist diesel in it, so now it's smog exempt. I'm new and don't know the rules regarding posting links, so you'll have to look it up on your own.

I've got an OLD Chilton's manual that says some FSJs did, even has a section for that engine but, I've never seen one. As already mentioned, they were probably only sold outside the States.

The Chiltons I have seen only reference the diesel that was available in the FC170. There was also a diesel available in the XJ overseas.

I just noticed the part about it being 1986. So, yeah, probably XJ...

I bought the remnants of an early 1980’s Wagoneer that had a Nissan SD33. The owner said he got it from a fellow he knew personally. The story was something like: “ It was one of several prototypes built in Japan but they were too underpowered for production”

I'm building one of those. And plan to be disappointed with the performance.

I wish the Cummins crate motor was available when I started.

AM General (the Jeep spinoff for producing military and fleet contract vehicles) used that Nissan engine in the CJ-10a Tug, which used the FSJ chassis, so it would be (relatively) easy to adapt one. Jeep may even have tested out that engineering for production consumer vehicles, but any claim that a specific FSJ *was* one of those prototypes is useless without secure documentation of that fact.
