TBI and kickdown

Post by rherndon »

I will be installing the Hamilton kit on my 76 wag (401 with TH400) soon and was researching kickdown with a TBI setup. I came across an old post on jeepforum that seemed to indicate that with a TBI the ECM could control the kickdown....

http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f8/kickd ... ch-703037/

Anyone have first hand experience with either using the ECM or keeping the stock kickdown switch configuration?

Many thanks,
Rogers

What ECM will you be running?

I don't think a 'standard' 7747 ECM will do this, but the newer 7427 might.

You might be better off just duplicating the factory wiring/switch and doing it that way...

You'd have to peruse through the '7747 ECM definition file with TunerPro to see if there is any software "switch" that you could use to indicate WOT.

It's been a while since I've pulled it up, so I don't remember if there is or isn't one.

X2 what Blake said. You could always be geeky and program a micro controller to read the TPS and close a relay at WOT, but a simple microswitch under the pedal will do the same thing and cost less.

Have you asked Bill if he can program that for you? (I'm suspecting you don't have a way to re-program the chip since you've purchased it from him....)

I have a question into Bill to see what he thinks. Part of my interest is due to my current lockdown switch being bad. Initially I could not find a replace but since doing research I have found a few from vendors and on EBay. But I will post the feedback I get from Bill regardless of the direction I go.

Thanks for the feedback on this one.
