I am about to install a new Howell system on my 84 GW. I cannot find an air cleaner assembly to fit the 5 1/2" neck. Anyone have any suggestions or pics of what you may have done? I appreciate any help.
Just saw that you were the one I was talking to on JeepForum about this site. Welcome! There are some folks on here that have done Howell and can speak more to it.

The stock air cleaner will fit fine, but is a restriction. I ran stock setup on both my Jeeps when I first converted them.
Several options out there...all depends on what you want to spend.
Open element they(Howell) recommends in the kit instructions can be had from Summitracing in generic form for ~half the K&N price.
eBay sellers list a CAI for the GM TBI trucks, ~$40
You can rob a Caddy w/ TBI of it's bonnet and make your own intake setup.
Could also mount up an airbox set-up from another vehicle.
Be careful of the chrome 14" open air filter setups. The base does not have the same dimple under it to clear the TB sensors. The early TB's on Chevys had a 2" tall spacer that went on under the air cleaner for clearance.
Jaber dhould I get a spacer? I'm not sure on good clearance. Secondly does anyone feel a cold air set up would be better than a regular after market air assembly?
Ok so my auto correct jacked my last post up. Should I get a spacer? I'm just not sure on hood clearance. Motor is still being rebuilt so I don't have anything to measure off of.
I used a spacer on mine, but mine is a Caddy 425.
I have been wanting cold air, but dont want it to neck down to 3" at the filter. Just me. There have been a couple of guys that have done cold air and a couple that have done dual snorkel. All have been happy with an improvement.
