Running lean

Post by AwesomeJ10 »

I swapped a complete '89 4.3L/700R4 into my '88 waggy. It has the stock TBI with an 8062 ECM. This ECM shares the same wiring as a 7747 and I was even able to get the engine to run on a spare 7747.

Well the PO installed a Hypertech 'chip' into this ECM. The chip itself is stock in appearance. The engine has edelbrock intake/headers/cam, hence the reason for the chip.

I did some data logging with winaldl and found that the BLM's are consistently running in the 130's-140's. It rarely dips below 128.

I'd like to run a 7747 in there (mainly because I have a couple of 7747's that are already modded for sf512 and zif socket). My question is: what BIN file should I start with on the 7747?

Head over the gearhead EFI they have a ton of .bins
Maybe this one? It's a 4.3/700r4 BCC = ATKX

Full list of bins

I always start w/ a .bin that has the latest release date I can find.
Being as how you have headers/cam/intake probably going to need to add lots of fuel.
I'd crank up the FP to help offset the lean, be sure to adjust BPW properly to account for it.
Maybe try 15psi vs. 13psi

Aftermarket chips aren't the greatest, I bought a ECM that had a superchip in it.
It was virtually identical to AJRT just with a touch more timing and a crapload of extra fuel + PE came on almost right away.
I bet the poor sucker who bought that chip got ~5MPG.

You may want to just start with the ASDU and change the cyls to 6.
Most V6 bins are async which changes the injector firing under certain conditions.

Can you elaborate on this a little?

Here's a good explanation. At least I think it is. I could understand it, so it must be written for beginners. :-p
