7.4 vs 5.7 TBI on a 360

Post by SkylinePCG »

I know... KNOW I’m going to be mis-stating, mid-speaking, and definitely mistaking in this thread. But I guess it’s bound to happen, venturing into uncharted territory...

I’m looking into finally putting the carb on a shelf, and going efi on my motor. I like what Bill at HFI does, but the cost of the kit alone is comparable to an LS motor, so I’m considering junkyard parts.

What’s come up just recently is going with a TBI unit from a 350, vs one from a 454. My 360 is modded a little, nothing wild:

Edelbrock performer cam and intake
Long tube headers/dual exhaust
TFI
And there’s an MSD 6A in the box waiting to go in.

Would that list of stuff make the bigger 454 the way to go, or should I stay with the 350 setup since it more closely matched in displacement?

It would cost WAY more to swap in an LS than the price of his EFI kit. I can't think of any reason to go with the 454 TBI. I am by no means a GM TBI expert, but I have not seen anybody here go with the big block unit.

I put a 350 TBI unit on top of a 401 without any problem. So a mild 360 should be fine with a 350 TBI unit, I'd think.

I am compleatly new to the tbi so this is probably less that 2 cents, but on my build i have a 360 that's .030 over, a mild rv cam, and a gm tbi. I'm still tuning but so far it seams to be plenty of air and fuel for the 360.

Its been a while but I think the only difference between the two is the injector size. You will be fine with the 350 unit. I ran them for years on my previous 360's.
