Gas Tank Replacement for 1988 Fuel Injected Grand Wagoneer

Post by pjwoody88 »

I have a fuel injected '88 Grand Wagoneer and need to replace the gas tank. The original one is full of sludge and rust. I am being told that there are no aftermarket tanks for the Grand Wagoneer. Is this correct? Are there alternates that would fit?

They are plastic. Maybe take it out and clean it up.

There's a lot of tanks that people modify to fit in the spare tire area as a second tank or larger tank that seem to be no problem. All over the forums and internet.
87 Grand Wagoneer Rebuilt 360 by S&J, Fitech GO EFI 600, Novak in-tank fuel pump, Skyjacker Hydro 4" lift, BFG AT KO2 30", Dynamax Muffler, MSD distributor, MSD ignition, Edlebrock perf 4bbl intake, Elgin perf cam, Oil tube mod, Roller rockers, chrome molly lifters, HD alum radiator, Powermaster 150/100 alt, Alum HD water pump, Serhills tailgate harness, Cowl screen mod, Evil Twin grab handles, Rstep's custom AMC door lock knobs, all electrical works.

just clean it warm soapy water is all that should be needed.
I can see sludge from old gas or whatever, but have never seen rust in a poly tank.
Is this a shop looking to milk $$ you?

A 1991 TWO DOOR Chevy S10 blazer fuel tank will fit in the spare tire spot and is set up for an in tank fuel pump.

You will need adapters to connect the stock fuel filler lines to the Chevy tank.

How many gallons is that? Be nice to have a tank that doesn't have a wonky fuel reading depending on how the Jeep is oriented.

Ir's only rated for 19 gallons, unfortunately.

Other tanks will fit, but will hang below the trailer hitch frame.

EDIT: See my website for gas tank pix.

Still having gas problem and just did a new post in this forum too. Did you do this replacement yourself? What problems were you having before you added the other tank?
