Have Fitech on the way, any suggestions for an in tank system? I did stumble across one aftermarket kit, but was wondering if anyone has had any luck building up their own using parts from a local auto parts store.
You could swap to an s10 blazer tank and just use the factory intank pump.

What all was involved with the install of the Novak kit? The Tanks Inc unit requires a new hole cut and seems quite involved albeit worthwhile in all likelihood. However, with Novak being a Jeep specialist and this kit being specifically made for thr FSJ, I was hoping it's simply a drop in unit? Can you provide a little further info? Thanks.
It is a drop in kit. You have to run a power wire back to it, and establish a very good ground with large ground wire. I had the 18 gallon tank that has the separate sending unit and pickup tube.
They do also have a kit for the other tank.

Cool. I've read some posts online where some guys are actually modifying the stock sending unit/pickup and adding an inexpensive GM fuel pump which is basically what the Novak kit is I believe. May investigate that option to save some cash for other things like braided supply line, etc.
Yes, go DIY route, not hard, not expensive, keep & spend your $$ on other stuff.
You do not need some crazy exotic fuel pump for a mildy modified engine.
If you want something a little more than stock, buy a walbro.
Nothing wrong with stock though, available @ any parts store should you have a problem.

Any one having issues w/ sucking air on a low tank with these setups? Considering the lack of any baffling in the stock tank?
I haven't...someone siphoned my tank while I was on vacation once, and I ran out of gas. Took over 19 gallons to fill it up again, so tank was pretty dry.
The pickup screen is ~1/8" off the bottom of my tank, there is a small sump there.
I used a stock GM pump.
YMMV.

Thanks. I am currently running a low pressure pump feeding a surge tank, and its working well, but I would love to go to a single in tank pump, and modifying the stock pickup unit looks like the easiest route.

For a mildly modified engine a stock style TPI or LT1 fuel pump would work well.
A TBI pump may work too, but might be borderline w/ cam/headers/exhaust @ WOT?
A Vortec style pump would probably work.
I chose/went with stock TBI pump on my '88 because the engine was stock.
Me engine has Crane cam (not sure of lift/duration, edelbrock performer intake, some mild head work and Doug Thorley headers. ....bot sure what pump I'd need (assuming you go the LPM number)

read above...and I'll say it again.
You have maybe 250hp? Hard to guess w/o specific info.
Take your pick LT1, TPI, S10 or Vortec.
Any of 'em will work.
The exception being the TBI pump *might* not cut it @ WOT.
