I know a few of you guys here are geniuses on the computer end of the spectrum and I really could use your help. After many attempts and much time on the phone with Moates (including remotely operating the PC)and a replacement Autoprom I still can not get it to talk to ANY vehicle. The drivers are loaded correctly and we can read, write and erase chips planted directly into the Autoprom but that's it, that's all it does. All we get for readings are every # pegged to the max when attempting to datalog. We've tried it on multiple computers and with multiple cars and with every definition file known to man. Have also verified connectivity on the vehicle using a Snap-On OBD1 scanner.
Moates has offered a complete refund but before I completely throw in the towel I'm wondering if any of you guys would be open to looking at my laptop and Autoprom in person. I can box it and ship it as this is a back-up laptop I was planning on using solely for tuning. Also wondering if anybody else has had problems like this?

I had a similar problem with my laptop and the Innovate AF/R system.
It uses a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack and for the life of me I couldn't get it to 'talk' to the logic unit.
After a bunch of head scratching I realized that the supplied drivers were not WHQL certified.
I put 32 bit Win XP on the lappy and loaded the software and drivers and it worked like a champ.
Windows Hardware Quality Labs certification is kinda like mafia extortion; Pay us to certify your drivers or they won't work under x64 Operating Systems.
The 32 bit Winderz rarely cares about signed and certified drivers.
I would ask which OS versions on the PCs you tested with were x64...

WOW!
Assuming XP was 32 bit, I can see why the Moates techs were stumped.
I wonder if the data rate at the port is set too fast...
I know that Moates has some software that re-directs the USB bus through RS-232 COM1-4 ports. Did they try that method?
Also, are you using the Moates supplied cable with converter?
Anyway, the only alternative I know of is the TTS Datamaster/PCMforless.

For a pro tuner I can see the AutoProm being useful, for average guy with a few TBI systems to tune, kinda wasted money IMHO.
Take the refund and move on?
Bring it out when you come to pick up that gas tank if you can wait that long. I have never used that particular unit but if there is something wrong on the computer end we will figure it out.
