How/Where did you mount your ECM?

Post by REDONE »

So I pulled my TBI harness through the unused AC hose port under the heater blower. There's plenty of firewall real estate to mount the ECM right there above the passenger footwell. BUT, I'm curious how you TBI guys mounted your brain box. There's no screw holes or tabs on it, so I'm looking for ideas on how to secure it. What have you guys done, and I don't necessarily need to ONLY see super clean better-than-chevy-ever-did-it stuff. If you rigged it with zipties or something please show me. I'm way over thinking it so I need to see what others have done before I go off the handle and spend hundreds of dollars and countless hours making something dumb. :P

3/4 resto, rotting faster than I've been fixing it.

I mounted mine on the heater box bolts that stick through. They are spaced out perfect to hold the ECM sideways. I made a metal strap to hold it over there. I can get pics later on today.

BTW - I've read that you aren't supposed to ground the ECM itself. Something about interference issues. Never gave me a problem tho...

I've seen quite a few mounted to the backside of the dash on the passenger side. All who I asked said it was easy to get to (Laying on your back) and away from the heat of the firewall.
A few installations used the grab handle bolts/studs to mount the ECU/ECM.

I made an L-tray out of aircraft aluminum and mounted it where the A/C vent thingy was. I put the brain box on some rummer grommets and zip tied it to the tray. Pic in just a bit. It's not pretty but it fits and is easy enough to get to if I need it.

I mounted mine passenger dash with Velcro so I can easily take it out. This was possible for me since I don't have AC in my jeep. I have Velcro on the bottom and backside.

ECU was on my passenger floor for at least 6 months before I decided on what to do. So far, I'm happy with my decision. :D

Mine lays on the floor. :- /

In past Jeeps, I have hidden it under the passenger side carpet. But I don't have enough harness to hide it there with the current Jeep.

Zip tied mine vertically to the vacuum actuator for the heater.

Its too bad they aren't waterproof like the OBD2 stuff. There are plenty of places outside.

True that!
The passenger side rear of the inner fenderwell is where I put my Innovate ECU. It fits nicely between the fenderwell and heater box out of the way and well ventilated.

I mounted mine on the drivers side fender well on the flat spot and mounted my relays and fuse holder right behind it.

I thought about mounting in the engine compartment, but then I'd have to move my rocky Balboa horn and also, I've seen my engine compartment get douched in water and mud.
