87 grand Wagoneer map sensor?

Post by 87grandwagoneer »

I have looked everywhere and cannot seem to find a map sensor anywhere on my 87 grand Wagoneer, it has the 5.9 Amc motor and is completely stock under the hood including ac and smog/emissions equipment. It's idling rough and I can't seem to figure out why, someone told me it may have a map sensor since it's an 87 and when I called oriellys they said it does have one. The part number for the map sensor is 2-ms21 but I cannot find it anyplace on the truck... I'm dyin over here any help?

Your Grand Wagoneer is carbureted, so there is no map sensor, or any other fuel injection bits. The guy at O'rielly's was most likely looking up the smaller XJ Wagoneer, and not the full size Grand Wagoneer.

If its running rough, it could be ignition, or carb related. Has the carb ever been rebuilt?

Yup! The problem is there were two grand wagoneers in 1987 and most parts people don't know the difference.

No, actually books/computers often list incorrect parts even if you select/look up SJ.
I've frequently seen both o2 sensors and map sensors listed with SJ selected.
