looks like a lot of those numbers are pegged. That could mean that the data is being read as all 1's. This happens with a bad hookup on the serial cable. You sure it is grounded properly and the correct pin is connected to the ALDL transmit data line? Typically incorrect baud doesn't result in all 1's but ... check the baud rate anyway.
IIWY I would also consider opening up a serial terminal program like RealTerm or Termite and seeing what kind of data is coming across. I believe RealTerm can display the data being received in hexidecimal. I'd *love* to see that output because it would go a long way to troubleshooting this utter weirdness
You couldn't get a virus from xdf/adf. That is virtually impossible. I can say this with confidence because I do computer security for a living -- since 1997 -- and I have a rather in-depth knowledge of computers from transistors to digital logic to firmware to OS to application software... despite occasionally looking really moronic by loading the wrong bin file...
Of course... you may well have gotten a virus somewhere along the way.
Or... if something is really wonky with the serial driver, serial connection, etc., resulting in really weird data coming in, it is conceivable it could cause crashes and such.
