Good weld in floor pans, headliner, someone to rebuild tranny (727) have kit already, advise on a good lift kit, ie; cant I go to tampa spring and have one made alot cheaper than buying BJ's? ect. seats ,fuel tank, advise on weather to use paint stripper :ugeek: or sandblast?

OK, you have a lot of questions and there is a lot of information available at this forum. In regard to repairs, don't tackle more than you can handle. Do it in small pieces or it will sit for years until you get fed-up and sell it. Tampa spring doesn't make lift kits and dont strip paint or sand-blast unless you have to.

Hello, located in Jax,FL. But my J20 lives in NM. I usually go out there 2-3 times a year. The J20 runs pretty good. Mainly just use it to crawl around the desert & go up into the Gila National Forest. It's 4x4 w/ a 4 speed. The PO told me it was originally owned & used by the USAF. This earlier owner is a Pastor of a big church in Sierra County, so I figure he told me what he knew to be right.
This fall I'm bringing the J20 back across country w/ my dog (Lab). I much enjoy this truck but a bit concerned about the quick rust factor out here in FL. Does anyone undercoat their FSJ ? It has 137,000 miles but far from the scrape pile. I stopped the under floor pan rust (Naval Jelly) & a few spots on the inside floor.
Sorry to have made my first post so Long Winded.

The other question is about the long haul across country. The tires are all ''Load Range G''. They are old but I have only added air to one during the 3 yrs I have owned the rig. If I keep it under 70, think these tires could stand the traveling ? Noticed the steel wheels are extra HD. Maybe being government issue has some truth to this being an Air Force truck. Never seen this load range on a street motor vehicle before.

Thanks for any input, will post up some pix after I figure out the formula

IMO, bring a few spares and be prepared for a Blow-Out. If they are rotted, the long duration ride will heat them up and they will start to separate. My son was running a set of old Hummer BFGs and one day the tread rolled off the tire--all in one piece. Fortunately he was driving slow.

The tires show no dry rot. But will do a tire walk around inspection during refueling.
Plus one on having a good spare.
Hate to give up these Load Range G tires, unless they are a blow out looking for a lonely stretch of byway to happen.
They ride very smooth on the pavement but like a brick off pavement. That is when we just crawl along.
