Any Recon? - Ouray in Fall 2015

Post by Lumpskie »

So, I think the Jeep's finally ready for it's first Ouray trip. My parents are flying into CO and will accompany me, my wife, Lil Chunky (son) and Nutnut(dog) on a 5 day trip out there. We're leaving on Saturday and getting back on Wednesday night. My hope is to show them some beautiful fall colors, some historic mining ruins and to have some fun in town.

So, to you guys out on that side of the hill, how are the fall colors out there? The wet spring caused fungus to grow on the trees out here and our leaves aren't going to be very pretty.

I was just down exploring the Gunnison/Taylor Park/Crestted butte/Aspen trails this past weekend in my LX450.

The fall colors are AWESOME right now.

I think you will enjoy the trip. Looking forward to your carb report...

That's great to hear! And, from what I understand, the Ouray area trees tend to turn a little later than the Aspen/Crested Butte trees. So, we might be in luck!

My hope is that trails like Ophir Pass and Last Dollar Road will be in full yellow/gold color when we get there.

If anyone else has current information on Ouray/Silverton/Telluride, I'd love to hear it as the week progresses!

Currently at the KOA. The trees here are about half turned, so looks like peak may be next weekend.

Should also note is is warmer than it was in July.

I was in the BV/Taylor area last week with lots of yellows everywhere. This week we are in Ouray, also at the KOA, the east end of Engineer is all yellow to gold with some oranges and reds starting to show. There are also some that are still green and a few that have lost their leaves completely.
Silverton area is mostly yellow to gold right now.
Imogene has lots of yellow & gold right now too.
