What kind of plug would it have on it? Would it be compatible with my 86?

Hmmmmm... Should be, it would have the Chrysler plug on the bottom.

Wow, That late model GW manual column would be EXTREMELY useful right now.
Any chance you are interested in pulling it and shipping it to Ft. Bragg, NC? I will pay!!

I just pulled a steering column out of a 1990 XJ in the JY yesterday to put in my 88 GW. My tilt is all buggered up, my key is stuck and will not rotate back to the LOCK position and I have gone to a floor shifter. Saw the write-ups on using the XJ column and figured I would give it a shot.
One day I will wake up and realize that my jeep is complete...one day, I just know it.

OK, at this point Derf has first dibs as he replied first.

Derf, are you going to go pull it? If not I'll go pull it tomorrow for this gentleman.

I really appreciate it! Understand Derf has first dibs.
If able to remove wheel, column might ship easier. If not, I will take either way.
Sent PM.

Any chance this column was pulled and saved? I am having a heck of a time finding an intermediate shaft to work on the 1990 XJ column to my steering gearbox. I don't have fabrication ability currently, so trying to hunt one down. No joy with trying to marry the SJ and XJ columns and get a usable length..
I am close to ordering custom Borgeson, but dang they are expensive!

It was pulled and scavanged for parts. I used the lower half for my conversion. I still have the shaft from the XJ column.

So it looks like the bottom end of the shaft is a 1" DD like the 90 XJ column i pulled.. I could have sworn Nikkormat said it was splined. I spent a good bit of time trying to hunt down an early XJ column as i thought it was exact to the GW, just floor-shift.

Oh well, that is part of the journey with these things. I know he was trying to help.

I ended up using the '90 column and eventually found that a YJ intermediate shaft works to marry the 1"DD column to the 3/4 30-spline steering gearbox. Not all YJ shafts will collapse enough to get you to the ~27" length you need. I eventually found the Omix-Ada 18016.03 shaft that collapses to 23.5 and expands to 34.5. I now have a solid steering column without the column shifter stuff to go with my floor-shifter.

Are our intermediate shafts really 27 inches?

I was trying to say that you should find an intermediate shaft that matches the XJ collumn you have. Alternately that the intermediate shaft from an 84-94 (some say it's 84-92) is 1 inch round with two flats (is that DD?) And should be 3/4-30 spline to match your steering box.

But if our intermediate shafts are that long the info I have is irrelevant, as the XJ shaft is something like 21 inches fully extended.

Sorry I couldn't be more useful, I hope there aren't any hurt feelings.

Buddy of mine found a Gray/Burgundy 1988 down in CO Springs. I'm going to head down and grab the axles for myself. It also has a rear mount tire carrier that I will snag.

Front seats are shot but he tells me the interior is otherwise in good shape. No center console/arm rest. Looks like the radio is gone too. Engine/trans/t-case are still there in unknown condition.

If you want me to grab anything in particular, let me know.

Grill is off and the aux cooler is ready to be plucked. I'll look for the rear dome light. I'm assuming you want the whole assembly.

Are the front fenders as nice as they look in that picture? I could use a power passenger mirror.

I'll snap some pics. I'll grab them either way if they're good. And I'll get the mirror if it's good.

Lol that truck's body is in better shape than mine.

I see it has a lift kit too...

Yes please, entire dome assembly. Also, can you get the front dome assembly too if it has the middle lens intact, please?

Many thanks!! Name your beer (or etc. )

You might want to pull side markers and turn signal lenses if good so you can sell em :)

It is lifted wow. This one will give up some good parts.

Is it a sand colored interior? I might need to run down on my way home or on Tuesday.

It's not lifted. It's up on stands.

And it's a burgundy interior.

I lied. It has 4" lift springs. And TBI, or what's left of it.
