They will be pulling resources to get Ophir open I would think, how quickly is a good question.
Ophir is a shelf road that connects 145 south of Telluride to 550 north of Silverton.
People commute on Ophir for work, it saves a lot of miles and time.
While it's not a great wheeling trip it has some beautiful views

Spine Tingling... From the picture, it appears to be in the aspens on the Ophir side of the pass. Having seen the mountain "flow" before, it is safe to say even the Old Honcho would not be up for that challenge.

The first time I went into Engineer's pass in 1974 there were rocks so big I had to put one wheel up on them at a time and use granny gear to do it ( it would have helped to have 4 wheel drive we were in my 64 F-100 didn't make it past the mill on the side of the mountain, over heated!) all across the road, the next time I did it was in 2007 and I followed a Rav 4 who only had to back up once to get around a rock! People have become wuss's

Man I would love to be there in fact Craig was saying we needed to go back this year and that we were going to start working on Crom to get him ready, but once again it seems that nothing is working that way. He has been working on keeping the ranch going they just replaced one well pump and have another they have to pull they are hoping it just has a hole in the pipe fixed because when the pump is running you can hear water, but it is not coming out. He built a new 401 for his mom's waggy, the oil pump failed to pick up, so now they have to pull it and redo the crank. Then mom has two eye doctor's appointments that week, I could get those changed if there was any hope of getting there, but then there is the whole lack of funds...
Looks like Derek is out. He has some work issues and Dinky is having a lot of trouble getting around as well. It would be a hard trip, especially the travel, on Dinky for sure. No map updates needed.

Black Bear and Ophir are now open. In the area, the weather this week is cooler with more precip than last week. We hit 101.5 at home one day last week. The high so far this week has been 86 which is much nicer when you don't have AC in the house. Looks like next week will be a little warmer and drier.

Do the cabins have electricity? I can't tell from the website but I would like to think that if the teepee has a microwave, the cabins should have electricity for at a minimum an alarm clock. Thinking of bringing the mini fridge to keep baby food frozen while we are there. Hoot?
Brian and BethAnn, what did you guys do for baby food?
Anyone with an RV willing to freeze some baby food for the week for us?
Or I guess worst case we could get baby food in Ouray or Ridgeway that would only need refrigeration. I will discuss this with the boss.
Yes the cabins have electric. There are 2 outlets in 62A. I had it last year as well. Sorry but I just seen this post.

Also for the other basic cabin dwellers. You may want to bring a small fan. The afternoon sun can make the cabin very hot. I bring a small oscillating fan with me.

Looking forward to meeting and learning from all you more experienced ( in wheeling) folks as this'll be my first trip there ( not counting a motorcycle ride up and down the 'million dollar hwy'. Tomorrow my Waggy should be all fixed ( small things) and ready for the road. I'll be arriving around noon ish on Wednesday.

Hey guys we got to Ouray this afternoon and will be hitting the trails first thing in the morning. What's the plan for trail riding with you guys? I just need to know where and when. We have a place just south of the KOA on the east side of the road up the hill.
