If I weren't hauling 3500 lbs of trailer and loaded with firewood and other stuff, it wouldn't be an issue. I have a 5.0L Ford, factory FSJ V8 3 core radiator with Contour fans. Sitting in traffic on hot days with the AC going the truck will actually cool down. Climbing passes while loaded is another issue. I might hook the PC up and pull some more timing.

2007 Mercury Milan, 2.3L, 5-speed, now my DD. 29 mpg average.

Ah, okay. Yeah, the weight will make it harder. Take it easy on it and you should be fine. ;)

Monarch pass is the steepest one (at least on the way that I've taken in the past).

Yep, Kenosha, Red Hill, and Monarch (11,312'). Kenosha heading south is a PITA also. Traveling Sunday afternoon, so I won't PO too many people.

My J-10 is currently missing it's engine and I'll have my Wrangler there instead.

Yeah, this year I am bringing a Explorer 'SportTrac'. It's 4wd and has low range. It's about the FSJ's but it's also about the people. I am so excited my wife is joining me this year. With the Explorer we will be able to do more trails together. My FSJ is overkill for Ouray trails but comfort level for her and the dogs is limited. I will make it back with the FSJ...

although the 10 day forecast shows highs in the upper 70's in Ouray.

I'm hoping so 'cause I'm running the tube doors on the honcho. Anything below 50 degrees on the highway and it's pretty chilly.

Says Black Bear may be open by the 15th. Just in time for us.

The forecast so far says highs in the upper 70's to low 80's with good chances of rain. Sounds like it will be a good idea to pack for several possibilities.
