Black Bear is not technically hard or difficult. It does give the "oh sheet, oh wow" factor the first time you go down from the top towards Telluride. Lots of switchbacks and the edge of the world view are attention grabbers.

But needs the brakes to be top notch.
Guess that's motivation for getting the fuel injection installed too.

If it wasn't for the need for power brakes and power steering, you could probably do blackbear from the top down with the engine turned off!!

What day is that being run? I still hope I can come... Just hope it isn't overlapping my Reserve annual training.

Yeah, whether a trail is "hard" or "easy" is too subjective. If you have vertigo or acro/agro-phobia, black bear is probably impossible.

I grew up here, I've ridden and driven black bear numerous times and I think the altitude does something to your eyeballs. Even if you don't think you have a fear of heights (I used to climb sailboat masts for a living), don't be surprised to feel your heart beating like it's playing YYZ when you slide a little on three wheels at a switch back. Just take it as part of the fun!

3/4 resto, rotting faster than I've been fixing it.

We have not been in the habit of scheduling trail rides before the Invasion starts. The best bet is to show up at 47D each evening with a beer or two (beginning Tuesday) and ask what trails are being run the next day.

Cool. I don't sweat the heights (the wife would have a triple heart attack) but would be more worried about a mechanical failure.

... or show up at 47D and say you want to run Black Bear tomorrow. You'll probably find some takers to go with you. :)

Nickormatt, what site do you currently have?
I was going to reserve 47D and figured as things shuffle as we get closer someone would want it.

If you can't fix it with a hammer or duct tape you have an electrical problem.

Airing down AND good tires help on Black Bear. I did some sliding with the JK last summer down the steps. Thank God it was dry!

I believe some spots are taken, but the dates are accurate. Give Dave a call and he'll tell you what sites are available.
