I think the article mentioned that the guy was in a rental Jeep. (since he was from Florida) I know that all the rental companies explicitly forbid running Black Bear and Poughkeepsie Gulch.

I remember them telling me that when I rented one for the 2012 invasion.

It would be a shame if they closed it. Personally I just don't see them doing it. It's too much of a draw. The taxes from the Jeep rentals, lodging, food, shopping, gas and such all help pay for the availability of rescue persons. Maybe a new sign at the beginning of the trail would help. Perhaps a reminder to the Rental Jeep folks on the sign? Personally, I don't find it a scary or challenging trail but I suppose a newer person in an unfamiliar jeep might get intimidated by it.

X2

but you have to remember who we are dealing with - folks who have never 'wheeled and have no idea how to drive.

I personally think they will close the trail because, ya, it's dangerous. Imagine losing a master cylinder or brake line right as you are going around one of the bends. You would fall into the pit!

That would suck something fierce. I think I'd be steering hard for the uphill side and use the body damage brake.

That one reason I like wheeling a manual transmission. In my taco, with dual cases in the lowest setting, the truck can't get going faster than 2 or 3 miles per hour, no matter the incline.

Well... If the ground gave way there may not be much trail left on the steps. I'm looking for more info now and will post links if I find anything new.

I know its kind if early, but my mom said she might be able to get a good deal on shirts locally. I don't want to step on anyones toes or anything and I want to check with the group before I ask her to get some more information. Is someone got this figured out already?

Looking at the map, nobody here has cabins 90 or 91?
