1976 chevy School Bus (Hbg, PA, $650)

Post by Geeeep »

It's spring cleaning time. Now that I no longer hoard FSJ parts I have no use for this:
Image

It's a 1976 Thomas Built School Bus, Chevrolet C/60 based. It's about 26' end to end. All of the interior seats have been removed and the rear wall/emergency exit has been replaced with a roll up door (all by previous owners). It runs (needs a jump right now, batteries dead from sitting). I purchased it 2007 in Winchester VA, threw a fresh battery in it and tank of gas and drive it 110 miles to central PA. It hasn't moved more then a couple hundred feet since then. I used it for storage. GVWR is 19700 so you can put a lot in it.
Small (I think 336) V8, 465 4 speed manual trans, air over hydraulic brakes.
When I drove it I had it tagged Md Historic so I've never had to have it pass inspection (FYI).
Tires have held air since 2007 but are weathered.
I don't know of a way to ship it but if you do, I can arrange access for the shipper.

$800 Located just SE of Harrisburg PA.

Open to interesting trades (but I'm not looking to spend money just thin the fleet).

That thing is pretty cool! What was it stripped out for?
What kind of gears and power does it have?

Person I bought it from had a band. He said they thought it was a great idea to all go in one vehicle, till they had to find parking space for a 26' long bus in the city

The 2 flip (railroad style) seats aren't bolted it. The rear bumper has holes drilled in it that look like they supported ramps. There's a bunch or NHRA and other stickers on it. The person who modified it supposedly had a small dragster. There was a bunch of lumber in it to make bunks or something. I got rid of all that.

Small V8 (336 Pontiac?), 4 speed manual (SM465 granny 1st), but single speed rear end. It's geared as a local bus, does great around town but I drove it 100 miles up I81, the truckers hated me  I think I maxed out at 55-60 with the pedal to the floor. I'd look into an overdrive or a 2 speed rear end if I were to drive it a lot.

It's drivable but I used it for stationary storage $37/mo to park it at a campground inside a fenced lot. Was able to hide a lot of jeep purchases there from the Mrs :D

It's basically a C60 MDT, from what I've heard you can drop a Chevy pickup cab on the frame easily as well. Crew cab and still have enough room for a baby Jeep, and a 19K weight rating.

Was actually thinking fit it out as a camper. I think it might be a good platform.
