Tool Sub-Section

Post by Tad »

I think it's time.
We have several threads about welders, ball joint tools, etc.
Now is the time to get them into one section.
I gave up on this at ifsja since there were way too many to hunt down.

Hmmm....

Would this actually get used as a forum, or would it just be a place to store data about what tools to use for what jobs and such? If its the latter, I would prefer things like that (Any kind of static data really) to go on the main site.

If it will actually be used as a forum, and stay active, then I am ok with it. I still am in the mindset to keep the total number of forum areas small as possible. I *REALLY* dislike forum bloat. There are some forums that have so many areas it makes your mind boggle. And most of them get that way via forum creep, where they just add one thing here, and one thing there.

So its not that I won't add areas, I just only want to add them if they are needed and will be used. So if there will be enough of them, and using search to find older post is not adequate, then I will create a dedicated area for it.

Just my normal-member $0.02, but I like where Tad is going with this. Should I ever give up drinking long enough to decide my write ups are finally "good enough", I'd submit them to you for the main site library. For all the tool discussions we've had in the last few weeks I think it'd get used plenty. I have two HF tools I've bought in the last month (bearing puller set, seal and driver set)I'd review right away if they had a decent home. There's also two active welder threads in Gen Disc page one right now.

I like the idea these things getting moved to the library, but those articles are single POV. If I say "wow, this bearing puller is awesome and worth every penny", it'd be good to know if 20 other guys bought the same puller and had had it shatter the first time they used it.

All that said, if you want to hold off I won't get myself banned in protest. If so, what would you say is a fair number of tool threads in other areas before it's own section is justified?

Who doesn't love to pick up some new tools! Up to date tool reviews and conversations would be great.

I kind of like this idea. Both a forum and a review section. I think there would be good potential for discussion on tools, both from a good/bad stand point, and from a tool use stand point.

Tool use from a srewdriver/prybar, etc. You know you've done it!!

In all seriousness, I'd say go for it, see how it plays out. If, after a couple of months, it doesn't seem to pan out then get rid of it.

Probably an AMC part number. They used it on all kinds of wiring joints.

That's just two tools for the same purpose, we all know the rule:

If it moves and it shouldn't = duct tape
If it doesn't move and it should = WD-40
