can't upload a large picture, or a .pdf

Post by babywag »

Was going to post a TBI wiring diagram that some may find useful, however not able to due to forum restrictions.

.GIF file upload error;
The image must be at least 0 pixels wide, 0 pixels high and at most 1024 pixels wide and 1024 pixels high.
The submitted image is 1983 pixels wide and 2268 pixels high.

.pdf file upload error saying the type is not allowed.

The size of the file is small, but it's large format for easy reading thoughts?

1983x2268 is huge. Thats too big to actually display in a forum post. I would suggest hosting something that large on on a 3rd party site or web space and then linking to it from here.

Currently the forum does not support uploading non-image files. I store these kinds of things on my own web space and then link to them here.

But I will consider these two things in some future changes I am still kind of working out when I have time.

well you can email the file to me shepherdblake@yahoo.com and I'll host it on my site, then post it on the thread.

LOL I realize it's huge, not trying to "display" it simply attach it to a thread.
Files are very small in size ~100k
I would have thought the forum software would just thumbnail it, but it won't even let me attach it.

The thread is in fuel injection, linked file on google drive and can download @ will.
Whole point of attaching it, is so it is on site(server) and not hosted externally.

External links have a tendency to get changed, go away, lost, etc.

He is going to host it on his webspace and then link to it. Rather than upload it to the software.

And technically I could remove any limits for image sizes. But then we inevitably get people uploading full res 10MP images.

That kind of defeats the purpose of keeping it on the forum(server) then.
It's already linked...

Most modern forum software will resize a picture that is too large to a set size.
Wouldn't work with this, as it's a wiring diagram, and scaled down to 1024 it's too small to read anyway.

But, allowing it as an attachment so people could download it direct was the goal not to display it in the thread.
Most forums thumbnail an image attachment, allowing it to be downloaded direct if desired, or opening it in an external window.

I think you're confusing displaying a picture in a thread vs. attaching a picture in a thread.

When I post a photo, as below, I use a hosting site. I use flicker. It displays here at a standard size but if you click the photo it will take you to the lager version. Best of both worlds.

Nope, not confused ;) Different pieces of code handle each of the two cases. Just linking an image auto sizes the display size, so it doesnt show up here.

Uploading has its own settings for file size and dimensions. But again, its something I have in mind.

Again NOT what I wanted to do...
I simply wanted to "attach" the file to the thread, so it stayed w/ the thread on the server and *not* an external site.

It's already linked on an external site, was before I posted this thread.
