Junkyard Run October 2018

Postby 1971J4000 » Wed Oct 10, 2018 10:40 am

There is a scrapyard 40 miles from me that has 8 or 9 Jeep pickups & Wagoneers from the 60s & 70s era that still have a lot of usable parts.

New York State so anything that would normally rust is probably shot.

Anyway next week my I am taking my nephew on a tour of this 30+ acre all in the woods old school junkyard. Many vehicles from the 30s 40s all the way up to the late 70s.

A few Jeep Willys PickUps out there too.

We will be taking closeup pictures of all of the J Trucks & Wagoneers and will be posting those pictures in the FSJ Parts Sales section of this forum.

Members can look over the pics to see if they see anything usable... and my nephew and I will take a Gladiator Road Trip to the same yard again in 2-3 weeks to pull whatever parts people have expressed an interest in. Yard owner is a good guy to work with so hopefully we can get the parts on the cheap.

Please check the FSJ Parts Sales section after the 18th of October.

Thank you for the note on my "parts wanted" list too! That is awesome of you to do for the folks here. I'll be watching for the thread after your trip! (I also appreciate the photos of the custom special you posted too...trying to decide if I want to try to rebuild the console that wasn't in mine when I bought it).

My nephew and I spent a rainy Wednesday in mud up to our knees and grass and berry briars up to our shoulders...

Schew.... but it was all worth it...

After 6 hours I was tuckered out so we headed back to the shop... yard owner says we missed 4 J Trucks and 3 Willys Pick Ups...

Believe me in this heavy foliage we were lucky to find some of the ones we did find...

I am working with yard owner on the logistics of getting these old beauties back to his shop to completely tear down anything salvageable... so at this time I will just put up a handful of pictures... as a teaser...

Look for updates on this thread very soon.... with many more pictures and details of what is available for sale...

These old sweethearts are doomed... another couple of years and they will be completely swallowed up by the forest... this may be their last chance to at least be a donor...

I'd say that short bed was transplanted from a Ford. Likely worth saving on its own.

We will keep our eyes open for a good usable windshield rubber seal for you.

Anything else you think of... you can reply again to this post.

We were pretty sure it was a transplant... but could not place it.

Very possibly Ford...

This is in remarkable condition... wood floor needs replaced and a couple of small holes there the flare meets the step... otherwise it can be stripped down & painted. No tailgate.

I can PM you a list, not sure I'd be able to get all of it at one time, but certainly a couple things. I've only had mine for about 3 weeks, and it needs a lot of work, but there are few things I know I want change.

That will be perfect... we are not asking anyone for any commitments until we know what we have available & at what price... but will be very helpful to know what kinds of things people are looking for when we do the tear downs.[/quote]

I know it's a long shot, but I can't really see we from the pics. How bad are the 4 flares on the 79 cherk? Mine are bent and badly rusted.

Also, I can't remember the member, but someone on here was wanting the mirrors of the same cherk.

We did not take a close look at them on either Cherokee and we do not appear to have any pictures that will show them well... so... we will have to get back with you on that.

We looked again at additional pictures (and took a few minutes to refresh my memory) and I am thinking... that unless that Caprice damaged the passenger rear one... that this might possibly be a good straight set of flares all the way around... possibly.

If you send me a PM with ur EMail I can send you these same pictures but much larger so you can zoom in...

Piece of left side of rear window is missing... but very likely could have fallen down into the grass... we will look for it... and will take a close look at the trim to make sure it is in desirable condition...

It will be a couple of weeks before we are back out that way...
