Have You Steen It?

Post by ghcoe »

The last trip in 2018 is now starting on my YouTube Channel. This is a 4 day trip taken in October to South Central Oregon. What a trip it was! Join us on this adventure as we drive the desert, check out hot springs, a round barn and drive through sun, rain and snow.

Thanks for posting - very enjoyable video.

Your Jeep must be quite reliable. Are you running an AMC 360? If so, is it injected or carbureted? Are there any upgrades or aftermarket items you've found to be really helpful in terms of reliability or is everything stock? What ignition system do you run, and last but not least, did you bypass your stock ammeter? Any tips you'd like to share are much appreciated! :-bd
73 J4000. 360, MC 2100, T18A, D20, stock closed knuckle Dana 44 front, 60-2 rear. Warn Lock-O-Matics, Warn/Belleview electric winch, true duals with glasspacks, old-school front diff skid plate, used 265 Toyos on 16" AR wheels.

I tried to change it up for the new year, but did not like anything I came up with, so I basically left it the same except for the updated production and logo opening.

Another popular YouTuber I like changed his into and found that most liked the original so he switched it back. Can't please everyone I guess. Thanks for watching, George.

Glad you liked the video!

This Jeep has always been quite reliable.

For the power plant I am running a stock 1972 AMC engine with the stock 1977 4bbl. intake and 4bbl. motorcraft carburetor.

For ignition I am running a 1984 Wagoneer Motorcraft distributor converted to a large cap, a 1986 Ford PU ignition coil and a 4 pin HEI ignition module running the show on the inner fender.

For fuel delivery I am running two of these pumps https://amzn.to/2FpSrzU . One for each tank. This was a big help on dependability. No fuel delivery problems since I did this conversion.

I added a this 3" lift kit https://amzn.to/2VJ7REl . Turned out to be a great kit even though people say the Rough Country lifts ride terrible. I did replace the front shackles with XJ rear shackle replacements and added a drop pitman arm.

For wheels/tires I am running Pro Comp 69 wheels https://amzn.to/2SQw6OV with BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 In 33x10.50R15 https://amzn.to/2VOAjo8 . This has been a great conversion from the original steel wheels and stock 31x10.5R15's I was running. Weight gain with the aluminum wheel and larger tire was only 8lbs. Really made a difference on Freeway drivability and I really did not notice much low end difference.

I did do the amp meter bypass with the alternator, direct to starter solenoid, wiring conversion awhile back. Since then I did have a electrical meltdown that took out most of the engine electrical harness. It was a direct short at the choke stove pipe that caused the problem. I completely rebuilt the harness from the firewall out with the correct wiring colors and connectors, but I rerouted the wiring loom to go over the heater box and down the passenger inner fender, rather than across the engine like stock.

For mechanical mods/conversions that is about it. Hope this helps. George.
