Hungry Valley (NV) 8/25/16

Post by Renodemona »

Quick trip into the northern part of Hungry Valley towards moonrocks. Didn't go real far as I knew something would break just because I was by myself and I didn't want to invite a long hike back to Eagle Canyon. Very pretty view from the top of the one long climb I did. Susan did just fine but did have to stop at the top and cool off for a couple minutes. Pictures!

That bottom pic would be SOOOOOO much cooler if instead of dry grass and weeds it was rooster tail. :P

Now that is an inspirational idea!

I'd try it but knowing my luck I'd blow up the transfer case and there would be an embarrassing photo to prove it...

btw: I lived near there back in the 70s and covered about every square foot of Hungry Valley on foot hunting scorpions. The area used to collect cardboard being blown in from Stead and surrounding areas. Scorpions would stay cool underneath so to capture them, one simply lifted the cardboard up, laid a pickle jar on the ground and prod them forward into it with a stick. Fun Fact, scorpions won't move backward when confronted. They only go forward fast and usually in a straight line.
Worked like a charm.
Lots of changes since then.

Lots of changes for sure, the reservation has actual buildings and quite an investment in wells, schools, and a community center. The Juniper Grove by the old airport is pretty thinned out. Not sure if its just been a hard couple years or if they are getting hit by the bark beetles. Kind of sad.
