Addiction Getting Out of Control!

Post by DustinLangston »

So it all started about 3 years ago when I bought my first '82 Wagoneer Limited and blew up the motor driving it home from the sellers house. The search on this forum for engine information and what to do initially pulled me into the FSJ scene. You guys might remember that restoration/Vortec swap at this link.
http://fsjnetwork.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4400

After finishing that one I sold it to a very nice couple out of Seattle. I thought the bug would go away, but it didn't. A few months later I found a '79 Wagoneer Quadra Trac but I decided not to go crazy on that one. I set to working on putting that Wagoneer back to original. It had been pretty severely bastardized over the years. It is now a great running original looking Jeep, but I couldn't be happy with just one FSJ.

About a year ago I came across a rough '81 Sportside Honcho in northern Utah. I have always wanted a Honcho. I sat on my hands and it wound up selling to someone else. Well it recently came back up for sale. I guess the owner was taking payments from the new buyer and he stopped paying. So the original owner got it back and put it back up for sale. I took a trailer up immediately and brought it home. I wasn't going to let it slip through my hands again.

Well last week a Jeep Cherokee Golden Eagle was posted on craigslist in the desert of Southern California for CHEAP!!! The ad had no pictures and a horrible description so he was getting no interest. I knew what it was and I couldn't say no. I grabbed a trailer and drove down to pick it up. It is completely rust free and original. It even has all four original gold wheels and all the smog equipment still there. The picture shows two wheels off my Wagoneer but that was just for transporting.

I'm excited to announce that I now have my FSJ trifecta! Now back to work restoring them all.
On a side note that is somewhat related since it is still AMC, I finally found the car my wife has always wanted and bought it out of Grand Junction Colorado. A 1962 Rambler Cross Country Wagon. It is in amazing condition and everything works including the original AM radio, and the automatic overdrive system attached to the old manual 3 speed trans on the column. Truly an amazing car. I have a couple early AMC 327 V8's sitting around that I'm considering swapping in to replace the aluminum straight 6 cylinder motor but I'm just not sure yet.

I had also never seen anything like this. The automatic overdrive works with switches attached to the throttle linkage. The overdrive works in both 2nd and 3rd gear. When you shift to second gear if you want to go to 2OD you lift up on the gas and it shifts up. If you want to downshift you push the gas to the floor and it down shifts. It works the same in 3rd gear too. Very cool.
