I am still working on the fenders.

While I was cleaning out my subscriptions on IFSJA, I came across someone who posted pics of my truck on there when I went to Safeway (a grocery store).

Here's the thread:

He said he had that bed made up, all punched out and bent from new steel, the flares are original willys modified to fit the wider tires.

That makes sense. I'd be proud of it if it were mine. Thanks for taking and sharing the pics!

it really was a beautiful truck. the interior was excellent, and his gauge cluster was the same color as the body, just awesome.

Kaiser had Jeep since 1953ish. Willys-Overland became the Willys Motors Division of Kaiser when that happened - and the W-O stamped tailgates disappeared in 1954 as a result. Looks like they grafted the W-O stamping into their 'new' tailgate.

I want to go from bench to buckets in my 73 J-4500. I really like the high back buckets you installed from the 2007 Cherokee. Did you have to fab the floor brackets (Most likely) or did the brackets from the 2007 bolt right in(least likely)? Or did the seats just mount onto the existing brackets on the 66 (unlikely, but asking anyway lol)?

Enlighten me oh bucketed one!

I put a set of '95 Grand Cherokee seats into my '75 J-20. I used the GC bases and made a few tabs to mount them to the stock floor locations. I then wired them up for power.

Lol, sorry it took so long to respond... A bit busy around here these days.

I started off with a set of bucket seat brackets from a super wagoner. I told the seats on eBay, but kept the brackets.

When I found the grand Cherokee seats I wanted, I pulled the motor system off by grinding off the specialized rivets. Once the motors were free and clear, that gave me the height I wanted/needed. I drilled new holes into the brackets and bolted the seats up.

If I had a newer waggle, or truck I'd find bucket seat brackets from a similar year, or same generation wag and use those. If I had the skills to bend, or weld flat steel, I'd also make my own if Orem parts were not available. I had to do that on my panel delivery.

I'll take some close up shots this weekend and give measurements, too.

That's actually a funny story.

I was at Home De'Pot getting some plumbing material for a new bathroom installation down in the basement several centuries ago when I noticed the inner diameter of one of the pipes was roughly the same as the outer diameter of the 55mm (?) gauge set I just purchased. Lol.

Seeing as how I had extra pipe, I played around with differing configurations while the grout was setting/curing. A few test fits, plumber's glue, body filler and a ton of sanding and it turned out 1/2 way decent. They sell a 55mm tach I want to install, but haven't made the time to get that done.

I actually get more people commenting about that pod cluster than any other mod I've made to the truck! I wish I had pics of that build, but when my last computer died, those and the seat mod, and a slew of other pics/mods (like the tilt column from a 78 J20 in a 66 j3000, or gabbing up the stepside bed) died with that stinking computer.

I have found that if you take the hard drive out of a crashed computer, and install it into a portable hard drive (the ones you buy to back up data on), I have been able to retrieve a lot of info off it and save into a safe location. ;)

Hey Jaber, we tried that, and a few other ideas, too. 2 techies who do that sort of stuff for a living could only salvage a fraction of what I had for pics. Only one pic of the stepside bed build surived; not one of the hand-built fenders made it out alive...

Yeah. I don't want to go thru that mess again. Of course it happened before I backed everything up on "the cloud".

Meanwhile, I have been putting up 2 shelves in the shop. Brackets 16" on center...

Image

I doubled up the brackets, flipping one set upside down so it hides them when it is all said and done.

Image

Standard pine, stained with leftover on my shelf...

Image

Yeah, the grills are crooked, that can wait. The lower one was cut down...

Image

Image

The M715 dash I couldn't sell. Gotta do something with it, right?

Image

When it is all said and done, it will pull out and fold down. The plan is to paint it 3 stage burgundy with smoke grey accents. So now it is on my list of parts to sand and prep for paint. Happy happy, joy, joy.

LOL, you should start a build thread for your garage in the tools and garage section... :P

I like the idea, it could be turned into a 12v test bench...

Lol, yeah, maybe. Random bits of inspiration hit me in frequent bits of frustration and/or perspiration!

Coincidentally, my father-in-law said my garage is starting to look like a museum. Since jeeps are my muse, it made sense... But I still think he exaggerates quite a bit.

Edit:

I blew out the drawer/slider mechanisms so now I guess it'll just fold forward.

Image

Image

So now comes the finish work; trimming it out to make it look a bit nicer- then take it all apart to sand, sand, and paint.

Still sanding on the fenders. They're close!

Got a "new" front bumper- the hoop on the old one took a hit and I couldn't fix it the way I wanted, so this'll do (the rear will go on the panel to match the bumper I have for that):

Image

That will let me finally install a winch; a Sidewinder factory jeep one:

Well, the meaty bumper is off. I am finally getting to the quick n dirty fix of the grill support cancer spot. While the weld thru primer is drying I decided to snap pics of the old spring perch location on the front... Now gone, but the holes and some rivet bits still visible.

The bumper is cleaned up. I have to figure out what I am going to do for a front plate since I took it off years ago and then lost it in the maze of a concreteless garage. Whatever.

I did get the sidewinder winch partially installed. I can say there are a few dimensional variations between my 66 truck frame and the 77 wagoneer frame this is supposed to fit (according to the factory/ dealer paperwork that came with the winch).

Two holes had to be oblonged on the main bracket, and the angled piece that bolts the winch to the front frame rail will also need oblonging. I still need to make sure the drop pitman arm clears, it looks pretty tightly packed... I hope it is not too tight.

The skid plate brackets are in place, but the plate itself was not in with the purchase (this past summer from an IFSJA member in Ellensburg,Wa.). So I'll think of something when the time comes.

Image

Almost forgot:

Trim, fit, trim again, fit, tack weld into plate, grind down welds, primer.

Image

Painter's tape, body seam sealer, primer, primer. Next body filler, or sand able primer.

Here's a YouTube how to video on the off road light mod where the pie plates are located.

It's in a two part video set up. Here's part 1.

The internal link set up didn't work for me this time.

Thanks... and Welcome to the forum. What club do you wheel with? I saw your post, I've also seen your waggie around town, too.

Changed the oil today and did a quick vid of the engine tranny and t case combo. I also checked the clearance on the sidewinder winch- it needs a tiny bit o' trimming.
