JD's '71 J2000

Post by Josh d »

Hello!

It's been awhile since I've been on any Jeep forums but I haven't completely gone away. I've taken a rather lengthy hiatus from Jeeps as I persued another form of automotive sickness, air cooled Porsches. I still have my Jeeps and wheel them from time to time. Some here may remember 'Ol Yeller from my time on IFSJA, and at least 1 Ouray Invasion (the very first, actually). It is alive and well and gets an occasional workout, unfortunately usually around town only to run errands. I did a build thread on IFSJA several years back and it hasn't changed much, if at all from then. Anyways, here it is in it's current state:

'71 J2000, bought in 2002 in Colorado in pretty rough shape
3-4" of lift using Scout II springs, Jeep springs, poly bushings from Jeep, Fords and who knows what else!
D44 Disc braked front axle from mid '80s Dodge. 4.10 gears, open
D44 flanged rear (original) 4.10 gears with a locker
35" Mud Rover tires on 15X10 chrome spokes
Rebuilt .030 360 with 268H Comp Cam, Performer, holley 650, headers and some head work. Great running motor with about 5K miles on it
Stock TH400 and D20 T/C
Interior has buckets from a Chero (thanks Jerry) and a nice steering wheel with chrom horn ring from a Waggy (thanks Tad)

Of course, this is only the highlights of what I've done to the truck over the 12 years or so I've owned it. Here are some pics!

Thanks for the welcome back guy's!

About 4 years ago I got bit badly by the aircooled Porsche bug. Similar disease as Jeeps, but treatment is much more costly. I jumped in before the "cheaper" 911's got out of control. Still, I'm embarrassed to say, I could have a pretty nice J-Truck AND Waggy for what I have in this little German rocket. But I can't even describe the smiles per mile I get from this car!

Josh D, great to see you and your truck here. Your truck has the right mix in my book and matches what I'm aiming for! The front axle swap thread you posted years ago was very helpful, even if I do still have my stock closed knuckle front.
73 J4000. 360, MC 2100, T18A, D20, stock closed knuckle Dana 44 front, 60-2 rear. Warn Lock-O-Matics, Warn/Belleview electric winch, true duals with glasspacks, old-school front diff skid plate, used 265 Toyos on 16" AR wheels.
