I felt bad for the old girl sitting for so long so I went and washed it after removing the roll bar. Hopefully I'll have the new engine in before the end of October and I'll be able to get back to work on the bed and touching up some spots on the cab. Stay tuned...

In the mean time, my DD Jetta TDI has been my make-shift pickup. Ugh, I need my truck back!

prairiejeeper wrote:I know this question is a bit late but do you have a door rebuild thread? I am stuck on a dilemma with all of the metal pieces to mate the door windows to the regulator so my windows that are currently held up with wood blocks can be usable again. Or were you able to re-use your inner door pieces? All I can find are handles, regulators and panels. The stuff the stores don't seem to have is what the previous owner broke. :(
I had a donor truck (68 gladiator) that I used the innards from. I don't have any other pics than what I posted up. It's a pretty simple setup, the issue is finding pieces that aren't rusted away.

Got my donor engine to the shop last week. Starting to take it out this week. (Your truck will live vicariously through mine, James!)

I also got rid of the old ecu module and all the wiring. I cut about 15 wires out of the engine bay. I also painted the bay with gloss frame paint and got all new wire loom to help keep it clean.

Also got a new rollbar made out of 2" pipe...came out pretty good IMO...no more pitted metal:

I've been driving the hell out of it lately...love the sound of the 258 w the cam and headers.
Up next:
Finish the prep work and paint the bed...finally!

Hey Pyro-

Do you have any ribbed bed flooring you would sell? I need some patch panels for a truck. I could use some 24"x24" pieces. Let me know.

Thanks,
Tom

Ugh...well I thought I had a spark issue that was causing a miss. Checked wires and plugs...all good. Did pressure test and found that #5 had 45 lbs while all the others had 150 lbs. Hooked up to air and found out I had a bent valve. It's ever so slightly, but apparently enough to cause a drop in pressure.

Got the head off and picked up the new valves and gaskets. Unfortunately I don't think I'm gonna be able to keep my headers so I may go back to a factory exhaust manifold due to install being a pita and some exhaust leaks.

A ton to update...I finally got it running great and have been driving it almost daily. feels great after all the down time. I even got a chance to drive it to a pay n spray and got myself a 10' paint job. It could use a bit of wetsanding and compound, but at least it's all one color again. The bed still has some minor bodywork issues, but I've decided to put that on the back burner for the time being and just use it as a truck again. I also threw my emblems back on and found some white jeep letters for the tailgate. (Though I need to find some silver like I had before).
