Full Size Jeep Network

Just sold my 1994 Grand Cherokee so I can put this back on the road. Been sitting since 2005, Purchased it in 1998 after it had been sitting for 15 years. 136,000 body miles, 60,000 miles on rebuilt 1972 360cid. Just ordered new tires and upholstery. I am redoing the headliner right now with Coroplast. I have a thread on that in the FSJ stock tech section. I also have for it Factory/Dealer brush guard, Safari Kit, A/C. Custom roof rack and grill off a 1963 Gladiator.

Looks like a sweet Cherokee. It'll be fun to watch it come together. I do like your headliner thread. I live in Az, and when you see ceiling fan blades melt, I would worry with my dark Grey roof. I do like the way it came out.

I don't think that heat will be a problem with the Coroplast. People with removable tops on newer Jeeps are using Coroplast attached directly to the roof with 3M tape to keep the temp's down in the cabs in Florida. If it does get soft I have a plan for that too. One step at a time.

Looks pretty clean overall. Good to see it's getting back on the road!

She is pretty clean. Only rust out is in the rear fender flairs. It has not spread to the body panels yet though. I hope to get that fixed next spring. I have a low cost idea I am planning to try. If it works I start a thread on that too.

I have new upholstery, tires and wheels ordered. Tires and wheels should be in this week. Upholstery should be in next week. I started a $50.00 paint job on the roof, but was not able to get it finished before it turned too cold here. Guess that will have to wait till next spring too. Still, it looks a lot better than it did. The pictures above where taken before I painted the roof. This is how it looks now with just 3 coats of paint.

The Safari Kit added a extra fuel tank. I am not sure how much extra fuel it holds, but I would say it holds at least as much as the main tank. If I were to guess it is closer to the 25 to 30 gallon range. The spare tire was relocated onto the rear carrier, which also added another 5 gallons in a jerry can mount and a rear license plate relocation bracket was included. The main tank and Safari tank were filled through the original fill opening and fuel was dispersed to both tanks through a T fitting. The main tank would fill first and then the fuel would overflow into the Safari tank. There was no fuel sending unit in the Safari tank so the idea was that you would drive on the Safari tank until dry and then switch over to the main tank with the tank selector valve. The fuel return line was left to return fuel to the main tank and fuel would overflow back into the Safari tank as long as there was enough fuel in the Safari tank. I have never seen or heard of these on a Jeep before. The guy I bought it from said it was a Jeep option and he called it a Safari Kit. I have found Land Rovers with Safari Kits from the same vintage so I think it is correct. I have a Factory Jeep brush guard and the metal tubing for the tire carrier is the same. I am thinking it is a rare kit, but I have never found any info on it outside of the info they guy gave me. Having 45 to 60 gallons of fuel will make for a great Safari though......

Picked up my tires today. bleed the front brakes and installed my new front shocks before installing the front tires/wheels. Installed the rear tires/wheels and repaired the gas tank. Put a few gallons on gas in and started her up. Took her for a drive up and down my road. Took a bit but, now she sounds great now. Hard to believe after sitting for so long. Just hope it stays that way.

Fist time on the road in nearly 9 years. Ran good. Heater controls are not operational though. Going to have to take a look into that.

Tires and wheels are on..... 2nd snow fall of the year.

Sorry, I was being a bit silly with that quote.

The details are I cut my old Wagoneer between the doors and put a bulkhead there. I used it for may years in the back country. It would follow my Cherokee anywhere I wanted to go. Used it to haul all my camping gear and I would sleep in it. Finally had too many things and it was one of the things that went. The picture here (as above) is the only digital photo I have of it. This was at a place called Indian Hot Sprigs in Idaho. It is the fastest flowing and hottest hot spring (165 F) in Idaho. The road in is slow going being real rocky. We camped here in the early spring and it was still getting quite cold at night. We camped right between two ditches that ran from the hot spring and it was cozy. We were up late with just light jackets on and no fire. It was awesome.

I was at the salvage yard today and found a 1966 J-3000 with nearly perfect rear wheel flairs. I am talking no rust at all. I was thinking they were going to want a arm and a leg for them. I asked at the counter as I was checking out and the counter person said $8.00 apiece. Well, going back this weekend with a generator and a sawzall and get me some new flairs. That is really the only place with rust out on my Cherokee. Now I just need to figure out how to install these new ones......

Working on installing my seat covers this weekend. One seat done tonight.
