Enjoying the '79

I've been working on getting the Wagoneer road worthy the last few weekends. Typical old rig stuff. Full tune up, million vacum leaks, new brakes etc... I think I've got it mechanically pretty sound now and we're working on building trust! Put about 100 miles on it running the backroads yesterday. So far so good. ImageImage

Trust building is key. Working on building trust again with mine after hopefully eliminating vapor lock.

That's great news! I don't know any FSJ owner who is without trust issues when it comes to these vehicles.

Good looking dog you have there. #BlackLabsMatter

Thanks for the comments guys. I Drove it down to Blue river this morning and spent the day wade fishing for smallmouth. We did pretty good, but the highlight for me was cruising down the rural two lanes in the Wagoneer. I just smiled the whole time. It was about 120 mile round trip. Longest to date. Not bad considering three weeks ago I brought it home on a trailer and it would barely run. I'll keep updating as I take it on adventures, make improvements, and work my way through what ever issues pop up if yall are interested.

As to the dog. That my hunting buddy. His name is "Goose". He's pissed at me right now. If he sees me leave the house with a shotgun or fishing pole, and I don't take him, there's hell to pay.

He's a year and a half old. This past duck season was his first. He did pretty good considering he was trained by an idiot (me) that learned from watching YouTube videos. Sorry for getting off topic. I'm that dog guy that gets excited about his dog.ImageImageImage

He decided to run into the water when my daughter was walking him in that pic. Just before we left for a two hour car ride back home. He likes to be an asshole. He just happens to be a photogenic asshole! Image

That does look sweet with Canoe. I don't know that I would trust the stock roof rack with a canoe on it.

Yeah, I'll definitely get some foam blocks to support most of the weight before any trips are taken. Do the two side profile shots look pixelated to you guys. They do to me but my phones been acting crazy.

Ok.... Talk me down from the ledge. I'm having a melt down. The Wagoneer started running rough and loud. Wanted to hiccup when you barely touched the gas also. I dicovered the drivers side exhaust flange doughnut had let go. I got that changed out (pain in the ass, but no broken studs). Anyways, the jeep is quiet again but runs like crap. Idles really rough. Actually had to turn the screw on the linkage to raise the idle to keep it running. Soon as I put it in gear it will die. Won't handle a load at all. I bought a vacum gauge to try an do some trouble shooting, but honestly I'm clueless about the process and how/where to hook it up. I hooked it to port on the manifold that was capped off and get an erratic reading between 15-25 hg? Anyhow, hopefully someone can chime in and talk out of having a mental breakdown.

Wow, been busy working and haven't been on here much. First, check all of those old vacuum hoses and make sure they are hooked up, plugged, and not broken anywhere. I used a 3/8" fuel line section, stuck one end in my ear, then moved the others around the vacuum system and found a pretty significant leak on mine. Also check around the base of the carb. Double check the snugness of those carb-intake bolts.
