New to forum, 1976 Wagoneer

Post by 76ShagginWagon »

Hello from southern Ohio! I have always been a Jeep man having had two TJs I've built in the past as well as most recently restored two International Scouts, one an 80 and the other an 800. My buddy who collects Jeeps and 4x4s had this 76 Wagoneer hauled all the way from Montana just to rob it of its 401 and other parts but didn't have the heart to cut her up. So I stepped in and now I'm in love with it. My father and I have restored many classics over the years and now its this ones turn. The plan is to restore her back to as close to factory as possible to make it a shop truck/project hauler/family truckster. Interior is currently spread out around the garage getting new life. Runs and drives great after a tune-up, just needs cosmetics. Really excited about this one :-bd

Thanks guys I appreciate the love. I guess I might as well make this a sort of build thread for the ol' Wag. This past weekend I finally got some time to dive into the interior of the beast. I headed to AutoZone to try and find some interior dye hat was close to original as I could find. Duplicolor makes a color called Desert Sand that was a little off but I think it looks even better. I cleaned and dyed every panel to match (including seats, fingers crossed it holds up) and it turned out great! I took the dumb trailer brake off the dash and found a cool old dash compass to fill the hole it left.

My buddy that sold me the Wagoneer has a boneyard full of Jeeps and International Scouts of all kinds and Saturday I dug through his junk and pulled a razor grill off a wrecked Cherokee Chief. He also had a decent early grill emblem off an early gladiator. After some beating, bending, and shaping it came out pretty good, just need some parking lights now.

I used a degreaser called Greased-Lightning and a steam cleaner to clean the front carpet and got just about every grease/oil stain out of the carpet. The duo works excellent and the cargo bay is next.

Not sure what the deal is with those side markers, they don't even match :P it appears this thing probably spent a lot of time in the woods. I found a bunch of old hunting regulation brochures and animal calls, canoe rental info, and a river guide under the back seat. I'm guessing the lights are a sort of trail light for night time in the woods? They still work when you flip the switch, can't wait to take them off when I paint it

The razor grill looks great, and a friendly tip, Blue Coral carpet cleaner works really good on carpet and upholstery.
