Nice progress!
As far as the coolant temp goes, you can easily test if the gauge is operating properly by grounding the wire and looking at your gauge.

What should the gauge do? Go full hot?

Yes. I suggest you have someone sitting at the wheel when you ground the sender wire. (Or ground it with the key off then briefly energize the system) You don't want to leave it grounded any longer than you have to as it can overheat the gauge windings.

Thanks!

I grounded, then switched the key on. Took a few seconds like the other gauges, but made it to full hot. Guess I'm due to replace the sender itself.

Another thread I asked about the idle issues. It was mentioned to check carb mounting stud tightness.
Yep. Three of the four nuts were loose. One was so loose, I turned it a full turn by hand when tightening. Idle much better. at least no more bog/surge while cruising. No more fear of stalling at stop signs either.

Sender replaced. Gauge shows low-mid green sweep at operating temp. Good to go!

Driving and enjoying this thing more

Well, the erratic idle issues have slowly ebbed away with a good bit of driving. I've actually turned the idle down from where I had it set at a higher setting to prevent stalling. I think the float was possibly sticking. Driving fine now. The last week has seen about 250miles. Last fill up today (included 150 miles of highway driving to see the eclipse) netted 14.1mpg avg! Wife enjoys taking it out for cruises now that it is proving more reliable. :D

Did the front brakes today. Repacked wheel bearings. Replaced a missing spindle bearing.

Been DDing the Waggy for a week while my T/A is in paint. driving to a weekend job I had lined up, I passed a local car show site. The attendant seen me coming and was waving me in. The most perplexed look on her face as I smiled, waved and drove right by.

Nights getting cooler. Getting off at midnight means I need 100% functionality in the heat/defrost dept. Temperature was there, but the switching wasn't. Knew I had a vacuum issue not reaching the flapper door. Vacuum ball underhood not hooked to vacuum. Didn't need cruise right now, so I cut the hose and looped it to the ball. I can tee it back in later.

Fired up the 360, switched on the heat and defrost, and this thing is awesome!

Took the Waggy out last weekend and hauled the nephews around to check out Christmas lights. Had a blast. My hometown had Main St. decorated nicely.

Fantastic weekend. Located a mid 70s Waggy in a small boneyard a few miles away.

Scored a piece of stainless rear window trim to replace the cheap, yellowed plastic door trim from the factory. Drilled out 2 rivets and it was mine.
Also snagged a 2nd set of rear pillar trim (3 piece stuff) to replace my hammered set.
Wife noticed it had a receiver hitch. A Valley model. Was afraid it was as rusty as the rest of the Jeep.

Turns out, the bolts were still clean as was the hitch. Actually, really clean! Must have been installed late in the game.

Was able to use my 3/8" ratchet and a boxed/open combo to remove it. No breaker bar needed was a plus!

Now, I have a way to pull a small utility trailer to haul lawnmowers or parts.

Scored it all for $95!

Just finished installing the last item (hitch) tonight.

4 days of driving the Jeep. Averaging 14mpg, even with stop and go rush hour city traffic of a nearby sprawl.

Was recently contacted on fakebook by the seller of the Jeep. He had located the other roof rack he had in storage. Nobody had answered his ad, so he told me to come by and pick it up.

It is a newer style (Chrysler era) and is in great shape with aluminum tear drop cross bars. Cleaned it up and have it in storage.

Also have a tentative time at a new body shop (same guys that did my T/A) to get the Waggy in to swap out the bad hood and fender and respray.

While it is there, I'll have them pull the glass so the dash can be swapped.
