CB antenna mount idea

Post by TUDrewser »

Working on an antenna mount for a CB in the GW. Will be putting a 4' Firestix antenna on it, and will be able to screw it on and off. Will stick about 2 to 2 1/2 feet above roof, which seems like it will meet the 2/3 above roofline rule for improved reception. Involves no drilling either. Just remove a washer from the door pole catch thing to make up for thickness of steel.

What are your thoughts? Will it work? What am I not thinking of?

Clever design. My only concern is that it looks like it'd be an awesome arm opener as well.
Having seller's regret.

I think it looks pretty sweet. The arm grabber might be a factor but with the angle of the tailgate and knowing its there would help. I like it.

Good point...I better be sure to 1) file it down, and 2) maybe put some rubber around the edges? Would look ugly...maybe I'll do that if it becomes an issue. But you have inspired me to round any corners...

Instead of rubber you could just tack some tubing or round stock around the edges. A bit more work, but maybe a cleaner look. And it wouldn't rot away or slip off like rubber.

I agree with this find an Ace hardware they sell small round steel tube bend and tack it to it.

I do like your design.

I don't know how you run your business and do these different design and still work on your GW
all in one day, unless your Wife is doing the design and working on your GW with your son :-bd

No need to tack extra round stock to it, just spend a few more minutes at the grinder and radius the edge. If after that your still nervous, paint the edges with tool dip. ;)

Nice design Drew.

Looks like a well thought out design. My only concern would be the antenna causing the bracket to wiggle back & forth & rub the paint off of the body and tailgate. (not really a concern on my rig but someone who has nice paint) The old cb brackets that go between the hood & body seem to like to do that over time. The further the distance between the mounting bolts and antenna, the worse it will be. Clever design though. :-bd

:funnypost: Not fine tuned yet...haven't even cut the metal and am on vacation this week (away from home and Jeep). However, if it works, it should be pretty simply to cut a few extra and send them out to folks who want to try it and provide feedback. Maybe this will be how I make my first million. Or not. LOL
