Post mount springs/open knuckles/35s

It just dawned on me that open knuckles with post mount springs may have turning issues with 35s. Does anyone know if this is true? I kinda need to know before i weld the spring perches on my axle project this weekend

It does hinder the turning radius.

Having the springs under the frame up front gives a lot more clearance. With the post mount springs, you will have to adjust out your turn stops a fair amount to prevent rubbing.

Thanks for confirming guys. How much more lift do you get when you move the springs inboard? I dont want anymore lift, it barely clears the garage door now. Maybe if i keep it spring under and move the springs under the frame itll stay close to where it is now?

Ive really been toying with keeping the steel wheels and running 34x9.50 swampers. Do you think the narrower tire will clear if i move the perches and leave the springs alone? I like the tall skinny aggressive tire look, seems more retro looking in my opinion. Im just concerned with the clearance. If it werent for a better turn radius and disc brakes up front i probably wouldnt even be bothering with swapping the front end. Plus going 8 lug to match the 60 rear im building

Put your perched under the frame and you’ll be better. Should have no clearance issues at all.

If i go that route do you think staying spring under will keep the height about the same?

Factory FSJ's that had the springs under the frame were also spring under axle. If you go spring over axle, then you gain about 5" of lift compared to your post mount setup.

If you are going to move the springs, I suggest finding some 2.5" wide springs as well. They ride better than your 2" springs, and are easier to find hangers for.

I agree. If you do that you can use long Chevy springs or Wagoneer springs 75 up. If you look at my Wagoneer that’s what I’ve done. Spring under frame with 75 up 4” lift springs. Basically what your truck would look like if you did this.

I was thinking if i end up moving them to keep my Hell Creek 4" springs since they are only a few years old and dont have more than maybe 3000 miles on them, go SUA in the front and see where it all falls. Worst case go SUA in the back also. I do need to bring it down some, my bad back is really not enjoying getting in and out of this thing anymore. Damn tailgate is over 3' high when its down. Originally i built it to wheel but i've never taken it since building it. The truck spends more time on the street driving to work and back, to Home Depot, or the dump. Im still building it with detroits and 4.56s just because i'm a huge fan of overkill and IF i decide to take it offroad i like the thought of going where ever i decide without issues. I'm just looking for a slightly raked stance like i have now but if it came down an inch or two i wouldn't be upset about it. Its 6'10 to the cab roof lights and the garage door is 7' high. As long as it gets in my shop i'll be fine with it

Going spring under in back would lower it like 6-7 inches. You don't want to go that low.

The ability to clear 33-35" tires comfortably. An aggressive over-stock stance with the ability to do whatever the hell i want with it yet not overkill to where its work to get in and out of the cab. Thats all i want.
