A little work on my 79 Cherokee

Post by DC78FSJ »

I've had a little free time so I started working on the Cherokee. It's a 79 chief s with the 258 and 4 speed manual,

I've all ready swapped the good ( if you didn't notice) an grill and been working on the engine, I'm currently waiting for the pick up tube for the gas tank to come so I can get it running. So right now I've been fixing the floor. It started looking like this:

So I wire wheeled the rust off, cut the really loose pieces out, and coated it with rust preventing primer Image

Then I cut out a piece that fit from so e extra metal I has laying around, and liquid nailed screwed, and calked it in place:

I let everything dry and painted it black so it matched:

Now on to the rear floor....

A little update, I finished patching the floor over the weekend so now all it needs is a little fresh paint.

Today I finally got it running and was able to drive it up and down my driveway ( it barely has any stopping power but the brakes are hanging up from sitting so long it even itself out). I ended up changing out the fuel tank sending unit. I had to swap the old carburetor back onto it cause the reman one I got kept over flowing with fuel.

Next is replacing the rotten fuel return line and then onto brakes and shocks.
