Today's Adventure. Sorry no pictures and long winded....
Well ever since I bought my Jeep, the rear window did not work. Also it was down about 2 inches. Since the window would not go down, I could not open the back gate.
I decided to remove the rear window motor and then go from there. Previous owner must have broken a bolt off and part of the motor assembly but lucky for me I was able to remove the remaining 3.
I brought the motor inside and disassembled it. DIRTY! Cleaned it all up.
Since the motor was out I then went about trying to lower the glass. One of my clips for the window glass linkage is missing and everything was frozen up with rust, dried up grease and many many pine needles. After removing as much of the needles and mud as I could I eventually got the glass to go all the way down.
Yay!
Still could not open the gate. I can get the inside handle to move a tiny tiny bit. but that is it everything else is frozen.
Then I thought maybe the window motor needs to be in to release a safety switch or something.
Got the motor in and success! It lowered and then did nothing
Tail gate would not open and now the window wont go up
I removed the one linkage clip and was able to lift the window. Long story later (too late) The window is all the way up, The one linkage clip is back on ( Huge pain in the rump). I left the wiring off the motor and removed the switch on the dash.
Any pointers on how to get the gate open? All linkage has been sprayed with penetrating oil.
Is there a better way then clips to hold the linkage to the window? I think I have an idea but wonder if anyone has done something else.
Oh The old man who previously owned this Jeep decided to put rags around each piece of the tire jack and then into the right side wheel well. Of course everything there was wet and everything is very rusty
