Laying frame , still needs 2-3/4" stock floor body drop , the bigger rusty rim and tire is 30" tall the wheels I'm going to do are 20s with 27.7" tall tire and the small white wall is like 25.5" tall for reference

Looks sweet, I usually hate lowered vehicles but I think if you keep it kinda old school, I think it will look GREAT :-bd

Took the body off the frame today , that used up most of my time as only two bolts actually unthreaded the rest just spun as the cages that the square captive nuts were in because they suck lol

I also started figuring out how big the notch needs to be and how much room I actually have for it

I also took some half ass measurements for a fuel cell just to see what kind of room I have and if and how much I needed to rais the floor behind the notch to make the gas tank bigger

So my ruff measurements put me at raising the floor 8" to the top of the notch cover and doing that will give me a tank that is about 24"x32"x13"

Ok so I just did the math on that tank size and I will be making it much smaller those measurements make it 43.22 gallons so I'm thinking ill reduce it down to an 18-20 gallon size

Funny you called it the surf wagon I was just looking last week for the wood grain surf board rear view mirrors for it

Did not do any real work on it this weekend , had to do family things ! But I did get the 2x4 box tube for the frame still need some 2x3 for the notch but Sunday evening I started stripping the old undercoating off the frame to clean it up so I can cut and weld on it

The aircraft paint stripper I got from autozone seems to be working good

Ok finally got back to working on the wagoneer , welded in the box tube on the passenger side , then cut the bottom off and finished welding it then cut the boxed part of the frame and made a filler for it and welded that in also

Here are the pix of today's work
Image
Image
That peice of round tube welded in the box is access to the original leaf spring nut as I'm thinking I'm going to use the stock leaf mount for my lower 4 link mount

Cut out

What a freakin great build. Looks like it will be a lot of fun when done and the frame idea is cool to see.

I forgot to cut the spare tire carrier bolt off before I layed the frame back down so that was holding the ass up just a tiny bit

Ill also box the rest of the frame once I get the notch in

Cut the floor
Image
Image
Got the frame back under it
Image
Put it on 4x4s so I could get the jack under it easy but you can see laying rocker and frame at the same time
Image
Image
This tire is right at 28.25" tall the tires I'm going to use are 27.7" tall so it's. very close comparison
Image
Image
Yes that's the fender lip so it will be tucking nutz and a little over half the hub :)
Image

Measuring and measuring and remeasuring to make sure the notch is exactly where it needs to be and has the clearance need to keep the back seat in place

Notch side plate template with built in fish plates
Image

The inside peices will not have the built in plates as I'm goi g to box the frame around it and will just be easer to do after

So are you going to rebuild the whole wheelwell? From where you have the tire placed, thats above the wheelwell?

Great work though. Really interested in how it will look!
