The disc has been replaced, and I’m off work for awhile to recover.

I’m healing up nicely, with follow up appt is next week.

Her heater, electric radiator fan and wipers now work, and the front bumper is on, so I took her out for a quick spin this morning for gas and coffee at the local coffee stand.






I’m still finalizing the instrument cluster arrangement/configuration, but all in all, she’s pretty much ready for the road as a daily.

Man I wish I could find a bed like that down here...

Thanks Jaber, the bed is one of the nicest ones I’ve seen. I had to build the one on the 66 because they’re hard to find in nice condition. My son is chomping at the bit to get in it and drive it- he’ll probably take it for a spin this weekend around the neighborhood.

Looks excellent! Cool to see it out and about with that late model pickup in the background. Dig those mirrors - they're right at home on that thing!

Emergency brake is in, fresh air events are plumbed and working, Driver side turn signal in the front has been modified and installed, double checked all of the bolts in the front clip and around the truck- everything‘s tightened up, and we reinstalled the custom cab emblems.



That was also the first attempt to recreate the cab’s patina. On the original cab, there was the factory Spruce tip green showing around the emblem, so we tried to replicate that as best we could.



I couldn’t resist putting the 4.0 emblem on the back of the bed. Lol.

Maybe I missed it... But what's the shifter set-up on this thing?

The AW4 tranny’s stock XJ shifter.

I wired up courtesy/dome light from the driver’s side door using a Jeep plunger switch, and finalized the headlight switch and installed it, too. He now has dash lights.





Those lights go to the center console to light up the PRNDL indicator, and the 4wd selector, but we’ll use them both for the PRNDL as the Dana 300 t case doesn’t have an Illuminated floor shifter like the stock XJ set up.




I rewired the cigar lighter so he can charge his phone/device if-as needed. I bought a new housing for that as I didn’t trust the original 62 era housing for the lighter.

Did you re-wire the backside of the dash, starting right at the gauges? I'm just asking because I recently had my 73's gauge cluster (the 3-circle/pod design) and some of my brass pins broke off the printed circuit board. I tried to re-solder some with mixed results. Now I'm contemplating just rewiring the whole underside of the dash and was curious if you did that since I don't recognize those two lights in your pic above.

Most of the wiring is XJ- the headlights, wipers and heater are J200 as those were pretty simple systems to recreate using factory connectors.

Those two lights on the floor are from the XJ, one will be used to backlight the floor shifter, the other will go to light up the factory dash compass.


Do you have a pic of your cluster, front and back? I might have a spare back if it’s the right style.

Sorry, no pics available. I thought I had some but it looks like I deleted them. My circuit board has 4 brass pins/posts in a horizontal line behind the ammeter and oil pressure gauges and a group of about 10 to 12 pins in a circular shape near the speedometer hookup. 1 pin in the circular group broke off and 2 of the ones near the ammeter broke off.

I noticed some black discoloration near my ammeter posts and couldn't confirm if it was a burn mark or just rubber residue from the black rubber insulation at the end of the ammeter wiring that had been in one place since 1973, rubbing against the circuit board. I disconnected the ammeter to be on the safe side by fastening both the yellow and red wire eyelets to one ammeter post.

PM if ya can. No worries on any hijacking. I do think 73 is different because on the ammeter. PM pics, though. There might be something at the local wrecking yard.

Yes, I have basically the same cluster as the one in Ted's pic but I have the 120 MPH speedometer. Arrangement of the gauges is the same though. I think I can get a pic of the backside of my cluster this weekend.

Ok, those are the 3rd Generation Instrument Clusters (1st was 63-65 all glass faced with a painted metal background. 2nd was the grey plastic covered version 66-73, but both these versions shared the back motherboard circuit system).

I don’t think there is interchangeability between 1/2 and 3. So I don’t have any 3rd Gen stuff. I can check the wrecking yards here locally and see what they have and get you parts at cost.

Did 3rd Gen clusters end in 79, or earlier, or later?

My '85 had them...

I keep all the old Jeep logo’d keys I find in the salvage yards. Only a 5 in the past 25 years. But this AM on a random chance, I tried them all in my son’s Jeep and one worked. Cool.
