Thanks! He's working hard and I'm having some fun.

The Foo Fighters were hands down the best show I've ever seen live. Dave worked the crowd over unlike any performer I've ever seen- and the Gorge is the place to see any band at.

I've seen Bob Dylan, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Metallica, Van Halen, Robert Cray, to name a few, throughout the years at the Gorge, but the Foo Fighters trumped them all.

Riding there and back in a friend's 2015 twin turbo'd BMW was pretty cool, too. Tool sounded great on that stereo.

We haven't update this in awhile- BUT, the frame has been painted, XJ gas tank installed, tranny cooler lines installed, and the first round of body work on the back of the whole cab is nearly done.

Image

We'll be starting round 2 on the cab by the end of today.

I managed to detail paint the front fenders and the grill support. The fenders and grill support will remain original patina, but the edges that are covered by the hood and the doors were painted back to the stock green paint.

I'll do the same thing to the doors and the door jambs. Once it's all together, the patina will get wet sanded, then clear coated.

Still fine tuning the cab's paint, but the jambs are back to Spruce Tip Green (great color!), but for the main cab exterior it's flat DOT green so I can faux age the paint. Luckily there isn't much cab visible toward the front, so the doors and vent cover takes up most of that space.

I did manage to hit up the wrecking yard for parts off a 69 1414C.

Those interior plastic door trim pieces are hard to find on the 1960's rigs. I still collect period correct aftermarket goodies- like the green sparkling floor mats.

Pretty slick homespun adapter for the Buick V6 to th400.

I went back to the wrecking yard to pull the whole steering column of the 69 Wagoneer, and when I moved the engine off the steering shaft I found these underneath it on the frame:

Image

Image

Weird. They did not fit the aftermarket ignition, but wouldn't unlock the doors either.

I did not pull the column- not enough time, but I did pull the tranny to t-case adapter to sell.

So it wasn't too bad of a day.

I'm working on the vintage aftermarket roof rack this afternoon:

Image

The wood slats might be pricy. I am going for oak. I might buy hardwood flooring and rip it down; here's a sample:

Edit:

While I'm working on a roof rack for the panel, 62Thriftside is sanding his cab. Yeah, it was painted back to the DOT green, but he's trying his hand at mechanically aging the paint for practice.
Image

It's a startling contrast between the "aged" DOT Green and the fresh factory Spruce Tip Green in the jambs.

The grill support, and fenders have been hung- all the necessary bolts are on and secured finder tight for now. We'll have to re-align the hood now.

Some owner maybe lost them, and then had the doors and ignition re-keyed? Those look like OEM keys from the 60's.

That's probably what happened. Maybe they were stuffed under something attached to the fender well and eventually worked their way out. A odd location to find them for sure.

They were for a roof rack- wait for it- for the Panel Delivery. I just posted it on the wrong thread. I was hoping no one would notice my 'scatter-brainliness'. Haha.

Lol! I had time to kill so I went through most of the 28 pages (tapatalk) but never did see it. Makes sense now. Gotta find that build and read it now!

1962 j-200 Thriftside Father & Son 4.0 AW4 D300 Project

Post by 66stepside »

I took two days vacation- yesterday and today. I packed up the Panel Delivery with the spare parts (should be gone on Sunday).

Then I finally tackled the exhaust on the 62. I kept the catalytic converter, but stepped up for a new muffler: Borla for a mopar. I also fab'd up a bracket for the Dodge D150 e-brake- that will get mounted tomorrow after the paint dries (upper left hand side of pic).

Image

I kept the Cherokee XJ tail pipe to keep the "stock" look. It should tie in to the patina'd look we're trying to keep.

Image

Now on to plumb the gas lines, brake lines and vapor canister lines.

Leftovers:

It been a busy few weeks. We managed to paint the underside of truck bed, install the gas vent line, fuel rail line, mount the factory fuel filter, plumb the rear brake lines and button up the rear differential cover and top it off with fluid. Now that we're ready to put the bed back on, I filled the gas tank with 8 gallons of gas- as I am still unsure of how I am going to plumb the filler neck and we're so close to firing her up.

Glad to have an extra set of hands today- shop door is wide open, sun is shining and we're putting the bed back on- mock-up style.

It's sitting on there with 2x4s. We'll be checking for clearance- especially the filler neck and gas vent lines.

We took care of the engine bay; buttoning up the grounds, installed the square-ended accelerated cable- a bit of grinding on the firewall, and getting the battery situated.

Then we tackled butting the engine bay harness and the interior harness together through the firewall. I had to slice a hole in the inner fender well for access and to endsure the wires wouldn't get crimped.

Image

Image

The ignition is in, but the wiring isn't quite done.

Image

Soon!
