New to the forum, crew cab J20 in process

Post by Tmassey82 »

Hello all, I’m a newer member to the forum but not new to FSJs. My first truck was a ‘79 J10 that met its demise accidentally. I was able to replace it with a ‘69 J2000 that I managed to get in the cover of 4wheeler magazine Jan of 06. Fast forward a few years and a Wife and 2 small kids later, the regular cab just wouldn’t cut it so I started my 4 door build. The truck started on a 2006 Dodge mega cab frame, I swapped the common rail for a tried and true 12 valve twin turbo Cummins with an Eaton fuller 6-speed transmission. My goal was a truck that will be absolutely reliable and have ability to get parts most anywhere. I made a custom adapter and shafting to bolt the dodge NP273 transfer case to the fuller. For axles it has an AAM 11.5” out of a 2012 Chevy 3500HD with a 4-link and air ride rear and another AAM 11.5” Dodge housing converted to a steer axle in front with a 3-link/panhard setup using Dodge coils up front. I’ve made some adapters to run 425/65R22.5 super single tires (45x16.5x22.5). I’m really looking forward to finishing up this project so I can once again enjoy cruising my FSJ, it’s been too long. Anyway I hope these pics will work out being a NOOB to the site. Thanks for looking

Travis

Howdy Travis! Welcome to the forum and the club. That's obviously a major build you are doing and it looks like it is coming along great!

Yea, it will be a big truck, the one it’s replacing sits on 2.5 ton Rockwells and 44 tires. The main difference besides the 4 door will be the usability of this one. It’s getting a 10’ flatbed and a 5th wheel hitch too. It will also have cruise control and A/C. What good is having a truck that’s not useful right?

Rockin'! I'm also looking for a way to bring the rest of my family along and I don't want to part with my J truck. Thanks for sharing those pics and welcome aboard.
