Where did that trans cooler come from? Its a pretty good sized one.

Yea, its about twice as big as I remember it being when I pulled it out. I think its a Derale 13104, 20,500 GVW cooler. The core is 10 x 14.

So, back to the fan shroud. A little more progress today.

From the bottom. Interestingly enough, this rad has a different lower tank than the OE rad and all that work to clearance the trans cooler lines was in vain.

Ok, a couple of questions for the experts...

First, should the fan be centered or, positioned to account for engine flex? As it rotates in one direction only, torque reaction won't ever be in the opposite direction? But yes, engine mounts wear, I get that part of it.

Secondly, with the newly acquired Cherk I now have 80% of the AC parts so Schwag will be air conditioned. I also just fabbed and installed a new trans cooler mount that will mount in front the condensor. I'm thinking that it really needs to go behind the condensor. Any thoughts, experience?

The direction the engines torques can go both ways. But is typically only seen if you have a manual and do engines braking and your engine mounts are in bad shape.

But you should make room for it to move. Or you will hear some bad noises.

I have always seen trans coolers be the most front item as they have the least air resistance. You do not want the most resistance to be in front as that will then decrease how much air the items behind it get even more so.

FINALLY! Some progress made after weeks of distractions!!! Spent the morning doing the soccer thing with my youngest then I got to work. Got the timing cover, alt brkts and ps pump reinstalled. Finished cleaning the ac condenser and got that and the rad installed, trans cooler lines hooked up I ended plumbing it through the rad first/trans cooler second. We will see how that works out...

Shroud and all other required parts installed! Clearance is great, drove about 30 miles under all throttle conditions to see how she performed. Dropped about 5 degrees on hot driving temps, albeit it was 80 ish today. That is with the addition of the AC condensor and the trans cooler in front of the radiator.

Note to self: Double check all hose connections before you shut the hood. Drove to work, no issues. Drove to lunch, no issues. Drove home, no issues, until I stopped at the quick mart. Upon returning to my heep, I noticed coolant dripping from what I thought was the coolant recovery tank. As I was but a mile from home, I figured I would check it out when I got there. Pop the hood, coolant tank no leaky, but hey, whats that extra clamp just kinda hangin' on the lower radiator hose?

Hmm, might be the clamp to secure the hose to the water pump...

I can only laugh.

1000 mile report:

Absolutely pleased with this project. No rubbing condition under load, and it pulls HUGE air through the radiator!

I had to pull the shroud to do some minor fitting (needed additional clearance for added trans cooler lines) and I am pleased with the ease of removal, it took about 20 minutes to get the fan, shroud and radiator out after draining the coolant. I am thinking about pulling it one more time and documenting the shroud dimensionally.
