1974 jeep Cherokee build

So I bought this jeep a couple of months ago with my dad for $300 and we brought it home. It had no motor, trans, transfer case, and exhaust. It has been sitting for a couple months and we finally pulled it out. We first pulled the front clip off, then took the body mounts off, which surprisingly went smooth, we lifted it up with a air Jack and our shop crane. We then started scraping and grinding on the frame cleaning it up. I have a 78 wagoneer with a 360 v8 and a TH400. We are going to swap the motor and trans from the 78 to the 74. Any questions or advice would be nice.

Sounds like you're off to a great start! Just curious, does your Cherokee have the small-ish, rectangular "S" badge after the side window? This isn't the circular badge you see on the later S and Chief models with the Chief's head. Anyway, welcome aboard!

I can't seem to find any badges on the side, but why?

I was just curious to see if you could post a photo of them if you had those badges. I've only seen them once in real life on a 74 Cherokee. As far as I know, Jeep only used them in 74 and 75.

This should be a straight forward swap. both Jeeps were available with this configuration from the factory. Was your 74 a quadratrac? What transfer case does the 78 have?

How about some pics!

Ya it should be a pretty easy swap. We probably would run into small set backs but it won't be a huge problem. It was quadratrac and I believe it is a NP 219
